Which is more difficult and why--learning the violin or the guitar?
I know you can buy "learn to play guitar" videos, but I haven't seen many violin videos; however, that could simply be because the guitar is the more popular instrument. Do you have to take lessons to learn the violin, or can you "learn to play" using a video?

Yeah, I remember being told the violin is more difficult to play. I play the guitar and piano but never thought about the violin. It seems very different from the rest. Don't know why though. Sorry

I would definately say violin is harder as you can learn simple chords on the guitar and be able to play a good song, Violin is more complex.

I've never tried violin but have always been told it is one of the hardest instruments to master. Being fretless obviously plays a part and also using a bow I'm sure is harder than just picking strings in terms of making it sound right.

u really cant learn to play violin via video because its a less of a hand controlled instrument. when having an instructor teach u he can show u exactly where and how to hold ur hands

How long it takes to learn guitar depends on how good you want to get and how much practice you put in. How good you can get with 1-2 hours a day for a few months depends on what methods you use to practice. There are effective practice methods that will help you make the best use of your time. This course is one of the best. https://bitly.im/aMdv8 It's not just about how much you play but how effectively you play that will determine how good you will get.

sadly violin is among the hardest instrument to play.
why? position, bowing, vibrato, takes ages to learn and need a teacher!
1 year you probably can play easy song but still not in a good sound, and probably little (not good) vibrato.

The violin is more complex and it's harder to make a beautiful sound.
The violin has no frets. You have to memorize the notes and where they go.
