  • Best cures for a croaky voice!?

I'm singing in a choir concert on Friday and am starting to get a croaky voice and tickly cough.

This concert is our first and such a big deal, I cannot afford to have a voice that is not perfect.

Does anyone know any good cures for a croaky voice (it's not sore, just deeper than usual and my throat feels very bunged up with mucous). I'll be taking cold medicine, cough medicine and lots of tea.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

  • What is the meaning of Amber? Polish Question?

I have always been given Amber necklaces by my Polish family and always thought that it was a Polish tradition and that Amber is a symbol of love and family. However I can't find anything to say this on the internet. I'm attending a Polish funeral soon and wanted to wear my Amber necklace because I wanted it to symbolise family and respect for my family. Could someone please let me know if they have heard anything like this, or the real meaning of Amber.

Answers from Polish people especially appreciated.

    Thanks

  • What can I do about my housemates boyfriend staying over?

I moved in with someone I didn't know about 6 months ago and we soon became really good friends. We had girlie nights infront if the telly and she helped me through some really tough times. However not long into our lease she got a boyfriend. He's a really nice guy and it wasn't an issue to begin and we could all chill out together and got along fine. However recently they've got really cuddly smooching on the couch, flirting and giggling together and it's making me really uncomfortable. He now stays over about 4 days a week and the rest of the time she stays at his. It's never the 2 of us anymore and I'm getting fed up. They know I'm keen to be in a relationship myself and it feels like they're rubbing it in my face. She's conscious about it and asks if I'm ok but even if I tell her I either feel like I live alone or with a couple she acknowledges it but doesn't change her behaviour. His clothes get washed at my house and I can hear them chatting when I'm trying to sleep. We also share milk and they use it up really quickly leaving me to replace it all the time as they use it up and then she'll stay at his a couple of days. I don't know what to do, I love my flat and housemate but I never wanted to live with a couple. We've not once argued so I'm scared of speaking to her as months of being passive aggressive I'm now fit to explode. What do I do?

  • How can I make cookie cutters without using metal?

I'm doing DT (design technology) with a class of 5 year olds and I want them to design their own christmas cookie cutters to make biscuits for christmas. The most obvious material to use is metal as it moves and moulds easily but then you have the issue of sharp edges. Is there a bendy type of plastic around that can be moulded into a cookie cutter shape?

    Thanks

  • Do I have an intolerance for wheat, gluten or yeast?

Whenever I have brown bread or pizza I always have really bad indigestion, feeling burpy, heartburn and a really swollen and crampy stomach that feels really full even if I haven't eaten much.

I'm not sure if this means my body disagrees with wheat, gluten or yeast, I don't want to give up my favourite foods so I'm hoping to figure out if I can get gluten/yeast free alternatives.

I ate pizza yesterday and still have indigestion.

    Any ideas?

  • What lesson can you teach to provide evidence for T3 compare oral version with the written version of the text?

I need to find something to evidence that my year 1's are able to notice the difference between spoken forms, re-telling known stories; compare oral versions with the written text.

I tried to discuss this with my class today but we found it tricky, other than the fact that one is written and one isn't.

So Q1: what are the differences? (that children would understand)

Q2: What activity can I do to evidence their understanding on this?

    Thanks

  • Reward system in Primary school?

    Hello,

I'm starting in my first year 1 class in September and I'm trying to figure out the best reward system to use.

The current reception teacher who has just finished teaching my class rewards children with prizes (balloons, bubbles, games etc) when they receive a certain amount of merits.

Apparently the children respond really well to this.

However as an NQT it isn't feasible for me to buy presents or rewards.

Has anyone used anything similar that would work for my class that doesn't require expensive rewards?

    Thanks

Note: Has to be appropriate for 5 year olds

  • Do you have to fall for someone right away or can love grow?

I've just started to get to know this guy and we get on really well and I feel like I can be myself around him. Everyone keeps telling me to date him but so far there's no spark.

Does that mean that he's straight in the friend zone or is it likely something more could develop? I don't want to mess him about :/

  • Where to meet nice single guys?

I'm 25 and I've been single for quite a while. It's not the end of the world and I'm fairly happy being single and independent but at the same time I do get lonely because all my friends are in relationships. I get to go out clubbing sometimes and I do get chatted up by guys but they end up being a lot younger than I am. I'm training to be a teacher so I'm surrounded by women all day. I've tried online dating and was contacted by a bunch of creeps. I've tried putting myself out there to meet people and I've also sat back to see if anything would come to me but so far it's all been a bit quiet. I need some ideas of where I could meet some nice guys as evidently I'm looking in all the wrong places....

Any suggestions would be helpful... especially from guys, where do you usually meet girls?

  • Setting a maths enquiry/investigation for KS1?

I'm currently training to be a teacher and for one of my activities I have to set a maths enquiry/investigation. I have bought the things for a picnic for children to set out a table and set out a variety of food to share between them. They would have to scaffold their own knowledge of fractions etc and see if there's a different way of laying the table than they have.

I'm starting to think however that this may be a problem rather than an investigation as I was always led to believe that an investigation could have no answer. Or is it still an investigation as I haven't told them what outcome they could produce!?

    Confused.

Can anyone help me turn this in to a solid investigation rather than a problem solving activity?

  • little bumps on my thighs...?

For ages now I've had little bumps on my thighs. Not like cellulite or anything but they feel like goosebumps, but they're permanently there and are tiny and sometimes red. I've tried exfoliating and moisturising but I can't get rid of them. My brother has something similar on the tops of his arms. Does anyone know what they are or what would be causing them and how I could get rid of the bumpiness?

    Thanks

  • Who's the posh guys that covers rock songs?

I remember ages ago a blonde man who had a really posh accent and he covered rock and rap songs but made them really posh. He always used to wear a suit and made songs sound more smooth and jazzy.

I think he might have covered papa roach last resort and break stuff by limp bizkit....

    Any ideas who he is?

    Thanks

  • Where is best to go in Greece for culture?

I want to go on holiday to Greece soon but I'm not sure of the best place to stay.

I want to see as many of the ancient sites as I can, be near a nice sandy beach and maybe one or two bars but not a crazy bar scene.

What town or area of Greece should I stay in?

    Thanks

  • Fancy dress ideas for a redhead?

I'm going to a fancy dress party at the end of the month and I need some ideas for costumes. Preferably something fairly sexy- but not smutty! I'm a redhead so I can't pull of Cleopatra or anything cliche like that.

I'm also hoping to make my costume or buy it cheaply

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

  • Will PGCE help me to teach abroad?

I'm starting a PGCE course for Lower Primary in September and I'm thinking that I would like to work teaching English as a foreign language in China for 6 months or so after my course has finished.

From what I've seen on the internet, a PGCE isn't all that helpful, and that I would still need to get a TEFL qualification, which after Uni fees I won't be able to afford.

Has anyone done what I am hoping to do and have any advice for me?

    Many Thanks in Advance!

  • Best long lasting foundation and blusher?

I want to treat myself to some new make-up but a lot of the makeup stands won't let you get samples to try out products for their longevity.

I currently use Loreal foundation that is supposed to last 24 hours but I generally think it lasts about 2.

I've also tried Mac and although that lasted a long time, it felt all sticky and thick on my face.

So can anyone recommend a good long lasting foundation that doesnt feel icky or look cakey and a good blush/blusher as I find these generally don't last long either.

I live in the UK so please suggest big brands and designer brands that'll be available in England.

    Thanks :)
