Need a good dog food with plenty of roughage?

We have 2 Jack Russells, 3 years old. We have had them just over 12 months now. Both suffer from sensitive stomachs and it doesn't take much to upset their stomachs. The vet recommended that we feed them on Chappie, which didn't upset their stomach but they simply do not like the stuff and will only eat it when they are starving hungry. The vet then recommended a specialist food that we can only get from him or over the internet, but that works out at £104 per month! So we are looking for a meat with a high roughage content. The only alternative that we have found so far is a dry food diet, but they do love a bit of meat and so we would like to find something that they can enjoy without it upsetting them. We give them mainly biscuits anyway, with just a small amount of meat, but we don't want to deprive them of the meat if we can find another brand that suits them.

Does anyone know of any brands that fit the bill? We have asked at various pet shops but they only seem to sell well known brands.

Both my dogs are on this and I also know a fair few people that have changed to CSJ and had amazing results. I get Natural Champ Adult a bag lasts my Lab and Patterdale 4 weeks at the cost of £9.75 If they are fussy and you feel bad about dried food add this ontop http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?id...

well - not sure that roughage is what you need. I have a boxer with a sensitive stomach. I was told to try a prescription food and it worked, however it was expensive. I found that Science Diet has a Sensitive Stomach line of food. That's helped quite a bit.

You may want to consider replacing the meat with a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin. They love the stuff and it helps keep their stool firm. They'll probably like it just as much as meat. If you try the pumpkin, be sure to get 100% Pure Pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix with the sugar and spices). It should run you USD $2 to $4 per can.

Give both a try - the Science Diet Sensitive Stomach & the 100% Pure Pumpkin

I feed my very picky mini-poodle Blue Buffalo dog food. She did not like to eat and was underweight before switching her to this food. For a treat instead of getting her wet dog food (which she doesn't seem to like) I asked my vet and they suggested pumpkin. I have given it to her from fresh pumpkins that I roasted and then blended up in the food processor and I have bought it canned. I mix it in with the dry food so that she eats a bit of both.

Your local butcher should have off cuts and such stuff, usually not for sale as it is regarded as not clean or unfit for human consumption. ask

all dog food has plenty of roughage.corn corn corn.and if they need more they will go outside and eat grass. i would not worry about it too much. RICE and CHICKEN is the best dog food for sensitive tummies.dont go to a specialist food its not worth it.
