Whitetail deer bowhunting locations?

I'm going to be bowhunting an area outside Albany NY called the Albany Pine Bush Preserve this fall. Previously all my hunting has been with my uncles so I've never had to scout and find locations before. When I go to scout for locations to hunt what should I look for? What kind of habitat? Should I start near streams or near wetlands? What else should I be looking for?

Update:

Cheesypeas, I really don't like people like you who are naive about how the world works yet get up on their soapbox and preach to me without exercising any common sense or logic. Please don't respond here or comment anymore.

@ cheesypeas, if you knew anything about the deer population you would know that they must be hunted in order to control their numbers. Without hunting the deer population would go through the roof, as well as the number of car collisions involving deer. On top of this if deer were no hunted, food would become scarce and many deer would starve. So tell me, if you were a deer how would you rather die. Would you rather die quickly and have the meat be harvested to feed a family. Would you rather lie on the side of the road for days waiting for to die from internal bleeding. Or would you rather starve to death because of lack of food. I think all anti hunters have a vision of a big stupid redneck killing a deer and just leaving the body behind. Although some people do do this, 90% if not more hunters take the animal home and either butcher it their selves or have it butcher by a deer processor. Have you ever heard of the hush program? This is a program that allows hunters to donate the entire deer to the state of Iowa. The state then pays for the deer to be butchered and all that meat goes to feed the hungry.

@larry, wolves, coyotes and other predators are exactly what we dont need. We have to many wolves as is. Did you that the species of elk is almost becoming exstint because of the number of wolves. How about the school teacher that was killed lat month, BY WOLVES.

Cheesypeas needs to study the balance of nature, and how humans have screwed it up! We have to hunt the deer to replace lost predator function (missing wolves) or the deer will undergo a population explosion and overrun our crops, and then die from disease from too much exposure to each other. Adding wolves to test areas hasn't worked out in the modern age.

As for using a very short range device to hunt deer, a tree stand with full camo in the densest woods possible, overlooking a well-used deer trail, gets you the closest to the target.
