Republicans have always cared about the environment; we just oppose so called environmental legislation, which only fines business for causing pollution and does nothing to deter it.

As a Republican, I still support offshore drilling, but I oppose expanding it until a thorough investigation is complete. This type of tragedy is unacceptable and we need to see that something like this doesn't happen again.

The timing is too suspicious for this to be anything but sabotage. Under normal operations, this would never happen. I'm not accusing you personally of being the idiot trying to "help the cause" by causing the spill, but it's a seriously counterproductive move on the part of the extreme environmentalists (which seems to be the only move they know how to make), and I fully support offshore drilling.

You want to know why? Because Republican and Environmentalist are not mutually exclusive, and I'm both. Offshore drilling keeps our oil business from ever passing through foreign, potentially terrorist hands. Used up rigs are used to repair reefs that have been damaged by pollution. They're one of the cleanest, most efficient ways we have to retrieve oil, in a world that isn't even halfway ready to switch over to electricity (About half our oil goes into making plastic, anyways, so converting all cars to electric wouldn't solve that issue, plus, the electricity would probably still come from burning oil at some point, making offshore rigs one of our best options).

So take your elitism and shove it. You aren't asking this because you care about the environment, you're asking because you want to feel like a better person than those evil Republicans. I hate coal-burning plants, clear-cutting lumber and whaling as much as you, and you know what? I don't think I'm any better than anyone else out there because of those beliefs. Get off your high horse. If you want to make a difference, figure out how you're going to do it, and then just get out there and f***ing do it already.

I say after voting for Reagan, laissez faire you want, laissez faire you get. I'm real sorry to hear about your oil spill and I feel real bad for you but... not my problem - adapt or die, I don't care, I have no interest at stake. How many times over the last thirty years do you suppose the poor bastards begging for handouts and government response now said, "get government out of our boardrooms and out of our lives"? This is what you get when you successfully expel government from your boardrooms and from your life. You said you wanted your cake, now hustle up to the oil trough and eat up, Bubba!

all the republicans should have had a tear of pride in their eyes when Obama said that it was BPs mess and they would clean it up. See that? He's not such a big government bad guy after all. Private industry can always do it better, amiright?

Well, instead some complain the EPA (which is regulatory agency) isn't responding, when in fact FEMA, the response agency and part of DHS, is on the scene.

i suppose this shows how incompetent and out of touch many conservatives truly are, or that they wish to do nothing other than promote disinformation

If this was for a term paper you would be asking about both parties as the democrat response has been less than sterling. sounds like troll to me. You have a good day now

No, caring about the environment is still way down the Republicans' list...

  • 1 decade ago

The only thing that would make them care is if you made them pay for the clean up or raised their taxes, or both.

With liberals sending the DHS to do the EPA's job, I have to ask myself just how much liberals really care about the environment, vs. the money they can raise for said environment.
