Underground Plumbing to Garage?
I am running water lines to the garage, I have dug a 5 foot trench form my house to the garage under the footing of the house and garage so, no pipe will be exposed to outside of building. I would like to know which pipe is best to use as I am having trouble finding information in the codes. I am getting conflicted answers about which will will last longer and is more resistant to ground shifting water freezing and so on.... Copper or PVC, CPVC, I would like to run both hot and cold water to the garage so I think my choices are just between copper and CPVC. I live in Northwest Indiana, on old swamp land, the water level is about 3 foot down. I have dug and extra 2 feet under the water level to about about 5 foot. I am in the trench standing and the ground level is at my shoulders. Any advice would be great Thanks!!!!!

You can call your local building inspection office and ask what the minimum bury depth for water pipes is in your area, then plan accordingly.
In most areas, underground water pipes must be copper. They make a form of copper that comes on a roll for this purpose.

Use copper pipe, and you have to wrap it in protective tape to stop any acids in the soil damaging it.Any Plumbers merchant can give you the correct tape for this. Normally water pipes undrground are only dug out to a depth of 2 foot 6 inches

Look into (Wirsbo Aquapex Pipe) you will have to find a place to rent the tool to run it, but it will save a lot of time and it wont break if it happens to freeze. It wont break because it has a membrane in it that will allow it to expand ( I think) seven times its normal size and water only expands one times itself when frozen. Look into it you will be amazed. I was a plumber for 8 yrs.
