Why is my 18M daughter doing this?

My daughter is 18Months. For the past few weeks or so she has more and more frequently been putting her hand down my shirt. First I thought it was just a comfy place for her to put her hand when we were cuddling, now it's all the time. In the grocery store she sticks her hand down my shirt, and just keeps it there. If I pull it out she will put it right back in. Right between my breasts. If she's sitting on my lap watching a movie, she has her hand reached behind her and she's got her hand in my shirt. Anywhere, anything I'm doing if it involves holding her or having her very close she has the hand down the shirt! I was going to ask her pediatrician, I ask her about every strange behavior she does repetitively but this is a bit awkward and I would rather ask complete strangers honestly.

Now, I feel like it is just getting a bit more extreme. Today, as I was leaving my dads house I was holding the baby, and she grabbed my shirt and pulled it all the way down! Bit embarrassing.

I only breastfed a couple of weeks because I developed an infection. So she was on the bottle. I did the skin to skin with her anyways for the bonding after I stopped breastfeeding. Now, is this normal, an obsession, a relaxation thing, a mommy thing (she does this to no one else) or is this a skin to skin thing? I'm curious.

I feel your pain, since my DD was 17mos she would rub my elbow and now it has advanced to my upper arm AND elbow, extremely light rubbing..almost a tickling, and rubbing her nose on my upper arm..all day..and night..and day and night!! AAAHHH!! If I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt she pushes it up as far as she can over my elbow abd stretches it..it is very frustrating and irritating but it really is just a comfort thing, oh, by the way my DD is 3 in july so I have no idea when they grow out of these things..sorry if I don't have any consoling or helpful words or advice lol

My son does this too and not just to me! I actually don't mind. I think he just likes the warmth and softness as he has also developed a love of all things soft a furry over the past few months - your daughter is prob the same. He also grabs me by the shirt, hair, whatever is in reach if he wants my attention, particularly if another child is involved. Try to remember that the most important person to your daughter (besides herself) is you and she may feel very jealous if your attentions are diverted for even a second - she's too young to share you just yet! Enjoy it while it last I say and don't be worried, it's completely normal behaviour.

My son is 11 months. He doesnt pretty much the same thing, except his hand is on the edge of my shirt, and he pulls it down. My shirts all end up stretched pretty bad. He did it in the drs office today, I was so embarrassed, as its a male dr for allergies, and our second visit. I think he does it for comfort. Your daughter may be doing the same thing, but you need to put a stop to it now, my daughter used to hold onto a mole on my neck, and she got so attacted to it I had a hard time getting her to leave it alone. At first when she was a toddler it wasnt such a big deal, but once it started hurting and I started to get her to leave it alone shed do it more and harder. For things you really dont want your kids to do, you need to start teaching them really young. MAybe wear a shirt that doesnt stretch so she cant get her hand down there.

    good luck

My daughter is 20 months old and she did this around that time too. Especially when we were in the grocery store. It was like a comfort thing or something. I let her do it. However, if your baby is pulling down your shirt at that age I would tell them no.

my little guys is 2 and likes to hang onto my shirt right next to my boob! I have to be careful on my shirt choices when we're in public. For him it's a security thing, it may sound strange but some kids just have habits like that, she will grow out of it. My niece actually used to rub my sisters earlobes for comfort :)
