In Ohio, is it legal to turn left across a double yellow line?

If you are making on a road with two lanes going in your direction and one lane in the opposite direction that is divided by a double yellow line, is it legal to make a left turn into a private drive from the left most lane on the side of the road in which you are traveling?

Also, can anyone find a resource that lists an Ohio driving regulation that either allows or disallows a left turn across a double yellow line?

In Ohio, it is perfectly legal to cross a double yellow line to enter a private drive or business providing you yield right of way to oncoming traffic and you are turning from the left hand lane. Use of turn signals or hand signals is mandatory as well as break lights or hand signals to show you are stopped waiting for a turn.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful

It's perfectly legal here in New York to cross a double yellow line when turning into a private driveway, as long as you yield the right of way to oncoming vehicles. I'm not absolutely certain what the law says over in Ohio, but you can at least disregard the idiots who think it's a dumb question, because it wasn't.

But the universal and specific meaning of a double yellow line throughout the US is that you can't cross it to pass another vehicle. By default, that means left turns across it are allowed, unless otherwise prohibited (by a sign, oncoming right of way, etc.)

I can't see how it would be illegal at all. So there was no turning lane in the middle? If no turning lane and no signs saying your not allowed to turn then no law was broke. The only thing the double yellow line signifies is that it is a no passing zone in either direction.

Unless there is a sign prohibiting a left turn then it would be legal.

The double yellow line refers to passing vehicles, while still continuing to travel down the road.

Turning from the road onto a driveway would be perfectly legal as long as it is done without interfering with oncoming traffic.

You can cross a double yellow line if you are turning in to a business, driveway, etc. However, you must remember to use your turn signal and you must yield the right of way.Other than that,it's legal.
