What are kids taught in high school?

After being on this site for two months I am amazed about how dumb some people are. I constantly see questions from kids or young adults asking about;

1. how much do I have to pay for going through a stop sign?

2. what is the punishment for larceny?

3. my friend (always you friend) got in trouble for being in the park too late. What will happen to him?

Hello? Are kids not aware that we have fifty states? Do they not know that each state has its own laws and system of justice? Or are they not taught that in school?

Then I see this from people.

1. I got a TEWQAJ yesterday what will happen?

2. I applied for YTBICQ. What are my chances?

Hello again. What the hell does that mean?

    To most people, especially kids, what is outside of their immediate purview does not exist.

    when new police recruits learn shortcut cop talk, like RD#, CB# (no reason for you to need to know them) and such we have a hard keeping them from using such terms when talking to a civilian or a cop from other jurisdictions who would have not idea what they are talking about.

    I have found the same problem with attorneys working int the prosecutors office and many MD's.

    I've had baby prosecutors talk about "common law" when we were in a statute (non common law) state.

    As a detective I often ended up translating for the common man, what they were trying to say.

    You forgot that people in this section are not only from the US. It is the internet, this is an international site.

    But I agree. I am from Canada, and I know that each state has their own laws, yet people from the US don't seem to understand this concept.

    At least in Canada, the criminal code is national.

    But we are no better here. I can't tell you how often I hear "I know my miranda rights". That's great. Miranda rights apply to the US. In Canada, our charter is different and has different implication.

    I agree. I was required to take consumer law in HS, but nothing else. I wish they would teach criminal law to them too!
