How's this for a solution to the Arizona Illegal Immigration Law?

Concerned that the new law will lead to racial profiling? Think that "reasonable suspicion" is too vague?

Here is my proposal. Instruct police to check to make sure EVERYONE that is involved in any sort of investigation is a US citizen. Everyone - doesn't matter if it is a traffic ticket or a felony. If the police have grounds to check you out, they have to check your citizenship status.

Do you see any problems with this?

Update:

How can you tell by looking at someone that they are clearly an American?

I figure that having a driver's license would make this a simple check for 90+% of Arizonians.

that actually isn't a bad idea. However, it will take so much time, we will need to double the police force and holding cells to hold people until they come up with ID.

That is part of the problem also. The "awesome" 1070 doesn't say where AZ is going to get the money to put this law into affect. We are already cutting all our social services, medicaid, food stamps, hud housing, in order just to pay our bills.

Our legislature thought that the 1070 was more important than voting on a plan to attract small buisiness. That kinda shows you the mentality of this state.

The law has also been revised to include any community police reports such as car on blocks, high grass or barking dogs. So, if you have a party, and the police are called, are they going to check every single person at the party? I hope there's a lot of time and a lot of police!

CURFO, you have to show proof of residency and birthcertificate/passport to get a license here in AZ and NY tose are the only states I've lived, so that is all I know.. Proof of residency is a utility bill or rental lease/mortgage.

Ya know while all this brouhaha going on over a law that hasn't even taken effect yet, the Sheriff of Maricopa County has been running illegal immigrant sweeps for the past year and a half. He's been successful too. Janet Napolitano, Phil Gordon, and a whole host of others haven't found a way to stop him yet. They've tried.

1070 is irrelevant if Arpaio is still in business.

That's what the new law already does. An officer cannot approach a person about their status unless they commit another civil infraction first. Profiling does not exist as its used by the progressive liberals. To them, any non-white that is asked anything is being profiled. Everyone knows that given the high number of Mexican people who are here illegally, that a higher number of Mexican people may be asked to prove residency. That's not profiling and its not illegal, but the left don't care. They are going to lie to those people who do not understand the law a majority of the time, and put fear into them that the police and government is going to come after them and send them to Mexico. Its a lie and a sickening example of how to abuse people who do not know any better by the progressive left.

  • The whiners just need to obey the Arizona law or leave. If it was unconstitutional Obama's flunkies would already have done something. So many allegedly educated people sit there on the news and say the law is unconstitutional. Just because these propagandist la raza idiots say it is unconstitutional does not make it so. All I see is brazen stupidity and ignorance stemming from a brown racist agenda.

You have to provide a State Certified copy of a Birth Certificate in order to apply for a drivers license.

You are asked for ID EVERY SINGLE TIME you come into contact with law enforcement, and you all know it!!!

Doesn't matter what the situation is if they have contact with you, you are required to produced ID, full name and date of birth.

IF the state would require that anyone applying for an identification card or drivers license would have to show proof of residency or legal status (birth cert., green card), then everyone who is stopped could show their legal status merely by showing ID (which is required in every state). Only those who did not show ID would then undergo a check of their legal status.

This is totally reasonable (which of course is unreasonable to libs).

All should be asked for an I.D. but you have to admit that many in Arizona who don't speak English is a good way to start!

Yea, when someone is clearly an American, they're not going to ask. While it's a great notion, this will still lead to selective asking aka discriminatory actions.

Imagine this scenario, cop asks a clear american citizen if he's a citizen, citizen answers yes, convo ends there.

Cop asks a mexican if they're an american citizen, mexican says yes, cop further probes because of looks. That's exactly how it would go down, putting us right back to square 1.

Drivers license has always helped bigD, doesn't really bring anything further to the new law.

Everyone in Arizona should be checked every time they buy gas or food. People to check them all should be hired at taxpayer expense. Gee, I wonder how long even rednecked Arizonans would put up with that!

Yes, I have a problem with it because it won't be enforced unless that person is a Hispanic.
