Do you like turkish delight?

the powdered sugar covered confection flavoured with lemon or rose water... and sometimes other flavours too. Do you like it? love it? hate it? never tried?

A lovely grandma in my old neighborhood made it every year and hers had pistachio bits or walnuts in, and was flavored with orange or lemon. The nearest to hers I've found is a confection called Aplets and/or Cotlets, basically Turkish delight flavored with apple or apricot juices with walnuts, also powdered outside with a mixture of powdered sugar & cornstarch. Pretty costly, but very good. There are tons of recipes out on the 'net for making your own, but doing it right takes time & accurate measurements--plus the right kind of storage containers, since the recipes I've seen make a whole big quantity.

I think they're pretty good but I have to be in the mood for them. I sometimes have a hard time with the difference in texture, the real smooth chocolate and then the jelly stuff in the middle. Not bad though, thank you europe for the Turkish Delight!

  • I used to hate them, but I find the more you eat - the better they start to taste haha. There really weird at first, but they kind of taste jelly-donut ..ish which is good. I think there great, and have a real whimsical feel to them and culture attatched to it - which is cool. Quality traditional candy, not pure sugar crap, that all tastes the same - rich decadent flavours, very good. Cute gifts too ! :)

Love the stuff but it's hard to find a really good version. Rosewater is the best flavour.

I have never had it, but it does sound kinda good. It reminds me of the movie "Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" when Edmund meets the Queen. lol
