Why am I blocked from certain TV shows on the net because I don't have a US IP?

When I go to some channels (NBC.com for example) I can't view them because I don't have a US IP address -- why is this? Why do they care if a canadian is watching their show online?

    Licensing fees. Try to view them from the Canadian network that airs them... or use a proxy server.

    Copy Right Laws are Different for Every Country ( so it's mainly about money)
