Do you prefer to ask questions that aren't technically parenting questions in the Parenting section?

Because some of the categories are filled with people that make us look normal?

Do you try to insert some mention of parenting, kids or family to make it more parent-friendly?

I like both parenting and non-parenting questions. I wish they had just a "catch all" section that didn't really go with any specific label.

I know there are many people on Y!A who ask great questions whether it's parenting or not. Sometimes I end up asking non-parenting questions in Parenting because I like the input from certain users who are normally in parenting. Might be a "misuse of the format", but how else am I going to get answers from the people I want to hear back from?

Yes. Because most of my contacts hang out here and I agree that the other categories can make parenting look normal. For example I've gotten some good advice about my cats in the "cats" section but also got blasted by several posters for feeding my 2 cats a vet prescribed special diet I buy from the vet versus some crazy raw food diet I'd have to special order!!

And I won't even get near the law section-enough people fancy themselves amatuer lawyers as it is without dealing with more!

For me it depends on what I am asking about. I had a question about law, and I asked it in the Law and Ethics section, because I assume that people who answer questions in there know more about law than I do. I had a question about using aluminum foil, and I asked it in the cooking section.

But I have asked questions here that were not exactly parenting, because I have come to know and like, and respect the regulars in this community. I have prefaced some of these questions with the statement that I knew it wasn't a parenting question, but...

Nope. I let the Auto-Categorizer place me where it wants to. If I have a question aimed at parents or pregnant women, I will go around the Auto-Categorizer though. Otherwise, it's fun to see where you end up and what types of answers the people in that section will give.

I like parenting questions. I also like non parenting questions from my contacts (even if it's in the parenting section) because I like general discussion and fun topics with others on here that I've come to like.

  • I prefer to ask whatever pops into my pea brain.

Besides everything in my life is parenting related, when you have kids they are a consideration in everything.

if i want opinions i will ask in here. i dont care if its kid related. adding the disclaimer of PQ doesnt save it from violation and deletion.

im not scared of trolling in other sections but usually the best reaction is from the parenting audience.

i have learned from the r&s section where they start irrelevant questions with "spiritually speaking." i ask most of my questions here whether they're relevant or not and just preface them with "Parents:".
