My laptop stops responding to keyboard input?

For no apparent reason - and without any other symptoms or indications - my HP laptop (Pentium dual-core, Windows Vista) will not respond to any keyboard input until I shut it down and restart it. Then it's fine until the next time (which is after it has been idle for a brief period). Any ideas or suggestions?

Update:

And the touch pad never responds at all

    Maybe It's a driver problem, or just a few virus, Try updating driver, or get some technical support from where you got it

    Try download newer drivers(on hpsupport.com)
