does anybody else view this whole war between liberal and conservative as a little pointless?

There is a point to it all. Keep us distracted while they take us to the cleaners.

This war you talk about is not pointless. The point of it is "I want my team to win at all costs" and shows a great deal of immaturity. Having different points of view is part of what makes this country great, but the mindset that a different point of view is the enemy, when it isn't, and that it has to be destroyed no matter what, is going to destroy the possibility of this country remaining great. There needs to be a sincere interest in seeing that the best environment is created for the citizens of our country despite party line and ideology. Instead of human beings working for the better good, we are "liberals", "conservatives", "libertarians" and what have you. Human beings have disappeared. Sincerity is very hard to achieve today because of the money of politics and the pathetic weakness of our politicians. Most politicians today don't seem to care for the citizens, they only care that they win the next election. How is that done? By prostituting themselves for campaign money, pandering to the loudest voices instead of standing by their own conscience, by adhering to thier party line as if it were the word of God, and by running a never ending propaganda campaign that labels the the other side as evil. Just imagine how great this country could become if our elected politicians actually worked together. Many of them are intelligent, clever people and working together they could come up with great solutions. Instead we are paying their salaries to take part in a football game. And the sad thing is that most of us are sitting on the side lines cheering on our team while bloating up on popcorn and hot dogs rather than trying to make a real difference. What we see going on today should be called "polititainment".

We've got some pretty major differences in opinion on some pretty important things. It's not pointless.

Secondarily, I'm reading a lot of "liberals want to control everything" and I couldn't disagree more. The big differences I vote democrat for are to keep government intervention out of my life.

The labels I can understand, although I'd say democrat and republican more so.

The war is between people who want the government to run every aspect of your life and those that want to government to leave you alone and get out of all the areas of your life.

It's not pointless. If liberals win, the government will control everything about your life. What to eat, how to discipline your kid, what to buy, how much you have to give to charity, what kind of car to buy, what kind of appliances to buy, etc. Conservatives are trying to prevent us from becomming China or Cuba.

Actually no, I don't. Those labels you despise help us determine who is on the correct side of an issue, and who is on the wrong side of an issue.

It lets you know who your political opponent is and who you must defeat if you want your side of the issue to be victorious.
