Rental properties (houses) rarely stay available for more than a couple of weeks. As you need references (that can be easily checked i.e. not an international phone call, Australian international rates are astronomical) and they need to meet you in person, unless you are a CEO, you will not be able to find a property until you get over here. The usual process is to get a holiday home for a month or two with a phone installed while you search for property.

Rentals cost from $400 a week, so you need to bring plenty of money with you.

If you are planning to come here permanently, are you sure you are eligible?, you can't just come here to live without proper immigration clearance.
