In the State of Minnesota, the age when a child can choose to live with either parent or relative is what they call "the age of majority". In other words, you have to be 18 in order to make that choice. However, the court will hear you out and make a decision based on your best interest. Like for example, the things you briefly mentioned in your question...those can be used for your own reasons and the court will take them into consideration. In your situation, though, it may be somewhat more challenging as your mother has not given up her parental rights over you. If she gives up the parental rights AND your grandparents assume guardianship through court proceedings, then you are good to go. You have not mentioned whether your mother is currently involved with CPS. If she is, then you could petition to live with your grandparents, and the chance will be greater to be granted. If not, well, you are kind of stuck... Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers....
