My female cat is upset with my male cat after taking him to the vet, what do I do?

Ok, This is what happened. My male cat had a big bump come up on his stomach, I was afraid it was a tumor. I took him to the vet yesterday, and found out it was a wolf spider bite. They gave him an antibiotic shot, then lanced it open to let it drain. I was told to keep him isolated because of the drainage so it wouldn't get all over the house. We kept him in a bathroom all night. I let him out this morning, and my female cat just wanted to fight him. Do you think she could be smelling the infection in his system? Do you think she'll get used to him again?

Any suggestions would be appreciated...Thanks:)

This is normal, she will calm down in a day or two. Cats hate the smell of antiseptic which the vet would have used to lance the lump. Don't worry about it.

This is very typical when one cat has been to the vet, that the other cat(s) are upset. He smells different - whether the infection or smells from the vets or both. I think usually they do get used to them again. but there are some things you might try to attempt to get her to think of him as family again:

Rub a soft cloth on your female cat's cheek/ temple where she has scent glands. then rub it on your male cat along his side . Then do the same in reverse I can't promise anything but sometimes this really helps.

Another thing to try is take a cloth, towel, etc. that he has lain on since the vet visit (as long as it's not got drainage on it), or take something and rub on him to get his scent on it, and then set her food dish on it and feed her something yummy.

I would supervise them at first when they're together because if they do get into a big fight it will be strongly imprinted.

Do something enjoyable like give them both treats they love, at the same time (but not inches apart so that they might fight over them.

If such things don't help and it really seems bad you could go through the process recommended for introducing a new cat, where you keep him isolated for a while, do the thing of exchanging rooms so they will mingle their scents; feed them at the same time on either side of a door, etc. before you move up to letting them see each other again.

Good luck. I'm very glad it was not a tumor . I hope he is recovering fine and that they'll get along again.

I agree with the later answers. Don't forget, for cats the main sense isn't vision - it's smell. And your male has all sorts of new and weird vet-smells on him right now. Your female doesn't like this! And then with the isolation, she has no clue who or what this strange creature is behind the door.

She'll get back to her old self, but it can take several days I've gone through this many times!

Cats do this all the time. One goes to the vet the other stays home. And when the cat comes home from the vet it has a different scent on there bodies and that upsets the one who stayed at home. My cats do it all the time. I wish they wouldnt and just get over it but they will hiss and do there little thing and in acouple of hours or days they are back to normal so I wouldnt worry.

This is absolutely normal... My girl cat does this usually whenever one of my other cats comes home from the vet too... Give her some time, she'll come around and everything will be back to normal! ^^

in the adventure that your getting a kitten i in my opinion do no longer think of it concerns considering the fact that its so youthful. yet while the others are no longer restoration, i could probable get a woman reason the male will spray throughout with 2 women interior the living house. yet while your woman exhibits various dominates i does no longer get a male as a results of fact probability is the male is going to objective coach extra dominates and that would create combating

  • Sounds like maybe she's upset because she thought she finally had the house to herself. Cats are very territorial so when she saw that he wasn't gone for good, she got cranky. She'll get used to him being home eventually but in the meantime, don't leave them alone in the same room together until your cat's belly is healed.

He smells different so the other one is suspicious.

Give it time. Give them treats, attention, brushing.

Things will be back to normal in a few days.
