Do people in the food industry have to wear gloves when handling food?
Hello everyone. I work right around the corner from a little Diner. I went in there the other day before work to get some breakfast. As the person took my order I noticed they only have one person cooking and she was not wearing gloves and literally using a spatula and her hand to cradle an omelet, among other things. I decided I was not going to order something and instead got some express oatmeal. I have since gone in 3 other times and the same person is cooking and sometimes the owners wife helps and does not wear gloves either. Frankly...I think it is disgusting and unsanitary. I just cant handle the fact that it being a little diner, that they just don't really care about that kind of stuff. I hope at places like Olive Garden or Maggianos, there is a strict protocol for handling and cooking your food.

No. Not if it is before the food is cooked. I work at a pizza place and we are not required to wear gloves because the food goes into a 500 degree pizza oven thus killing all germs. However, food that is already cooked, or does not require to be cooked (eg. subway) people are required to wear gloves.

Most foods are prepared and cooked with clean hand in this part of the world, and rarely will see a cook wearing them.
They are too damn dangerous.
If you get a splatter of hot oil or fat on your han the plastic will melt and create a far more serious burn than if it lands on your bare hands, which can be wiped of in seconds on your apron.
You are too fussy. As long as the hot food is hot you have nothing to worry about.
With cold foods and sandwiches like Subways I would expect the person who fills your roll to be wearing gloves.

It is NOT a law. Hand washing is WAY more important than wearing gloves. I once saw a busboy wearing gloves go to the bathroom and was STILL wearing them when he came out. Hand washing is key.
You can still pick your nose & scratch various places with gloves.

No, they do not have to wear gloves. And your food gets touched more than you think. What you need to watch for is how often they wash their hands. If they wash their hands regularly, it's actually much more sanitary than gloves.

My guy slave is interior the kitchen preparing dinner on the instant. Gawd is conscious the place his arms have been! chefs do no longer use the gloves as they place self assurance in touch, yet they do persist with enormously strict meals hygiene recently - diverse prep factors for meat, careful storage, and so forth. And as for stray hairs interior the meals, have not you considered the horror of the judges on Masterchef while they arrive across a hair? i do no longer especially remember ever getting a hair in a cafe meal, yet such as you I easily have observed the shortcoming of hairnets/caps on Masterchef.
