International rock legend, Ronnie James Dio, has passed away at the age of 67.
With a career spanning over 50 years, including several stints as the lead singer for Black Sabbath after the departure of Ozzy Osbourne in 1979, he was a key part of the success of their famous Heaven and Hell album. He returned to Black Sabbath in 1991 and again in 2006, as well as forging his own successful solo career with his own bands.

I don't think I ever met anyone who knew and didn't love Dio. Probably the most powerful and recognizable voices in rock history, and a phenomenal lyricist and performer. An incredibly honorable man as well. Truly a class act across the board. He will be both missed and celebrated as long as there is R&R, and will undoubtedly continue to influence musicians for generations to come. He had so many classics, there's no way to pick one. But here are several stand-outs from a few bands he fronted: Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain, Long Live Rock & Roll Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell, Neon Nights, Children of the Sea Dio - The Last in Line, Don't Talk to Strangers

Having seen Dio several times in concert I would have to say that when Heaven and Hell is performed live there is nothing better. For me this is the saddest day in the history of Heavy Metal.
