Itchy dog, corgi has red stomach that she won't leave alone!?

Our corgi has been itching almost non stop. She did this last fall as well, initially we thought it was fleas but after treating the whole house, yard and her she continued to itch. She did stop over the winter but has started doing it again. She only itches her stomach and has started to bite herself again. I just checked her and she doesn't have any fleas and the house and yard don't either as our other dog doesn't have a problem. Her stomach is red an irritated from her scratching, we just had a baby so money is really tight and I can't afford to take her to a vet right now but need to help her any affordable suggestions. I have heard oatmeal baths would help but I would like other options before doing that.

Thanks

Hey wow! My Pembroke Corgi does the same thing! We have found out she is allergic to ants! She would have the EXACT same thing happen on her foot, It has also happened on her nose. We just put cortizone creme on her booboo and it heals over time. It was always small sports though. She would chew on the spot til it was BALD!!! It definetly sounds like your dog has an allergy but like the others suggested it could be a certain type of grass, pollen, etc. I guess little corgi's are prone to allergy prob's! Hope she feels better soon!

Sounds like 'contact allergies'. My Dachshund has it. Call your vet and ask about using Benadryl.

I use it for all of my dogs. I live in Florida so allergies are ridiculous here. I will tell you the Benadryl did not fully work for my Red Dachshund and he had to be put on Temaril P for 2 weeks. You can only get this through your vet.

    I suggest calling your vet.

ADD: Benadryl can be purchased as the generic brand. It comes in 25 mg tablets. ONE tablet per 25 pounds of weight.

In otherwords, my APBT weighs 50 pounds . She gets 2 a day.

Itchy skin is a big symptom of an allergy. It can be to food or something outside. This dog needs to go to the vet. If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the dog, period.

It may be allergies, but it could be a skin mite. Take her to the vet and they can do a skin scraping. My pup had one, and it was because smaller dogs and puppies are more susceptible to them. It takes a little bit of meds which aren't expensive.

    Good luck!

Well they aren't fleas as they would continue to breed throughout the year. As most people have the heat on which allows fleas to breed all year round. Any pussy wounds around there? What do you feed her? Flax seed and salmon oil in their diet helps. She may have allergies as well. Use warm water and with iodine, use a cloth to wipe her around there.

My miniature Dachshund started doing this about 5 years ago and it turned out to be a grass allergy, right at this time of year but I suggest you visit her vet.

allergic to grass? get some children's benadryl (as your vet home much to her weight) (get the generic because they just recalled and the name brand) and yes oatmeal bath will help if it's an allergic reaction, if it doesn't go away with benadryl, you are going to have to take her to the vet so she isn't suffering!
