Does It sound like my water broke..? (41 weeks 4 days pregnant)?
So I'm 41 weeks 4 days pregnant & I've been having a lot of off & on contractions since 3-5 am yesterday! Lol. Earlier today I was sitting down & when I got up I felt like I had peed myself.. So I went to the bathroom & my underwear was like soaked! & when I looked at my pants they were kinda wet as well... But I'm not sure, Did my water break or am I just leaking really bad. & either way what should I do? My friend keeps saying I NEED to go to the hospital cause maybe the baby can run out of fluid & I know she's right but It's complicated... Though isn't It supposed to be a huge gush of water when your water breaks not like a trickle & then kinda like when your on your period kinda dripping......? Please help!

When my water started breaking I was lucky and on the toilet. When I got off nothing was coming out so we headed to the hospital we live an hour and a half from it. I sat on towels because I also thought it just poured out but it didn't. I had to use the bathroom halfway there and after I peed more water came out I sat there until I stopped. Got to the hospital around midnight and nothing else came out all night. The doctor had to break my water at 7am because mine had broke at the top(on the way home that night we had hit a bump on the dirt road and that's how that happened) so I guess i'm trying to tell you that it doesn't have to come in a big gush and you need to get in asap. Congrats and good luck..

Did you pay ANY attention in birthing classes or do any research? Most likely it is your water, there almost never is a huge gush. You can trickle for days. You will not run out of water but once it has broken, there is a pathway for bacteria into your uterus and your baby can get an infection. Don't take a bath or put anything in your vagina and you should go to the hospital. You can put on a pad. With my second son I just had a small surge of water, like a tablespoon or two, and then i was in labor in 20 minutes. Good luck.
It's not complicated. A baby is going to come out of you. It's better if you have a trained professional on hand to help.

We've all seen movies and television shows where an extremely pregnant mother's water breaks and moments later, she's delivering her baby in the back seat of a cab. While there is an off-chance of delivering shortly after your water breaks, chances are you have a long road ahead of you. Even though the spontaneous rupture of membranes can be a little unnerving, there is no reason to panic, especially if you know what to do.
For most women, labor starts long before their water breaks. In fact, doctors say only approximately 10 percent of women experience the rupture of membranes before active labor starts, so chances are you will be already in the hospital or settled in for your home birth when your water finally does break. For some women, the doctor or midwife may need to rupture the membrane artificially, in order to speed along labor.
If your water does break, it may be in a sudden gush or just a trickle of fluid. There might be a popping sensation before the amniotic fluid begins to leak. You may want to stand in the shower or sit on the toilet, waiting for the major flow to end. However, amniotic fluid regenerates constantly, so the flow will never completely stop. Once you are a little more comfortable, your best bet is to put on a large maxi pad and change it regularly. If you believe that your fluids are leaking, due to an increase in vaginal secretions or just a nagging feeling, call your doctor and ask to be seen.
Once you have cleaned yourself up a bit, the first thing you should do is inform your medical professional that your water has broken. Call the hospital, obstetrician, or midwife and let them know exactly what you have experienced. They may have guidelines as to how long they want women to wait before delivery once their water has broken, because of the risk of infection that grows as time passes. Be sure to pay attention to the color of the amniotic fluid, as well. Yellow, green or brown fluid can indicate that the baby has had a bowel movement and may need some treatment after delivery. Your doctor or midwife needs to know this immediately.
Having your water break can be an unsettling event, but it is so exciting at the same time. Once this has occurred, the birth of your baby is imminent. So relax as best you can and enjoy the last moments or hours before your new arrival enters the world.

Not always. I had 4 kids and it doesn't always gush. You should go to the hospital. If your water didn't break no one will look down on you, they get false alarms everyday. Your water won't run out it continues to replenish it's self. But if it did break you have to go to the hospital so you don't risk infection from letting it go. You should not go more than 24 hours after your water breaks to have the baby. If your 41 weeks you're full term and maybe if your not ruptured they will keep you anyway. Good luck and congratulations!!!

It can be a slow leak or a gush. Sounds like yours was more the first kind. Your friend is correct - you need to get to the hospital, no matter how "complicated" things are. The baby is losing fluid and you and the baby are both open for infection now. Bottom line - hospital, now!

I hope you contacted your Doc, this is a very big possibility that you or baby could get an infection. you should be checked also wear a pad so u can guesstimate amount of fluid lost . But talk to you MD there are really simple ways to test to see if this is amniotic fluid plus you are over 40 weeks, baby is probably larger, if u are leaking they may go ahead and induce labor. Most docs want baby delivered 24 hours after fluid is leaking or water has broken. congrats and good luck

you do need to get to the hospital. no, its not always a huge gush. mine wasn't. But ill tel u what - when i was pregnant i *thought* my water broke but wasn't sure. Different story - i went to the bathroom in the middle of the night. something "trickled" out and i wasn't sure if i had pushed to go pee or not and just assumed i did. MY baby was delivered 24 hours after that and i wasn't allowed to see him very often at all! Maybe 4 hours in the first 2 days because he was hooked up to all sorts of machines because i hadn't come in when my water broke and that puts newborns at great risk for infection that they are not strong enough to fight off!

No actually it's not necessarily supposed to be a huge gush it's normal for it to be a steady trickle. You need to get off the computer and call your doctor!
