What is a good substitution for squats that would put less strain on my lower back?

I have a slipped disc in my lower back. I am going to a chiropractor to get it straightened out, but it will take a while before the muscles in my back stop hurting. I already do leg presses in my routine, but squats help develop my hips and quads better. They also help my overall strength.

Update:

I already do leg curls, extensions, and calf raises. These are only isolation exercises. They don't hit the entire leg all at once like squats. I also tried using a chair, but the thing is that it doesn't provide for a deep enough squat toget the groin area and the leg sweeps.

plies! they might seem girly, but they are really great! They put zero pressure on your back, and work your whole body! You can search the positions online, there are five of them. If a full grand plie (bending all the way) is too much for you, then you can always do a demi plie, which is going halfway down. You do them VERY slowly, and always keep your posture straight!
