How to incorporate historical fashion into my wardrobe?

I really love the styles of the Romantic Era/Victorian Ages, and in fact a part of me wants to dress in full costume all the time. There are a few things that stop me from doing this: the obvious impracticalities involved in wearing skirts; the cost of buying fabric to make the dresses; the fact that I might completely alienate myself from my peers. How would you suggest that I incorporate my love for old clothes into my normal style?

I have seen some tops with gorgeous Romantic and Victoria elements to them like at Forever21 and Charlotte Russe, etc. They are a pale peachy color chiffon with lace insets, ruffles, and embroidery. Look for those and pair them with black pants, if you don't like skirts.

You could also wear pearl bracelets and a cameo at your neck on a black velvet ribbon. If you just add a couple of those items to each outfit and still wear your skinny jeans, you wouldn't alienate anyone. Even some ankle boots have side buttons somewhat like high button shoes. Good luck!! : P
