  • I bought "Yellow Submarine" by The Beatles off iTunes and the words sound very faint...?

I can barely hear them at all, except in the parts where there is no music. I was wondering, is this a problem I'm just having, or is it this way for anyone else? And also is it even a problem, or is it just because of how long ago the song was recorded? It's rather annoying.

    :) Thanks for the help.

  • Recommend some popular French pop songs for me?

Anything pretty or fun to listen to will do. I'm learning French at the moment and would like to test how much I know. Thanks!

  • In the 1800s, how the the clothes of the working class differ from the bourgeoisie?

I'm making myself a costume, 1820s-1830s era, and I'm trying to get more of a "working class" look. Would a working class girl of the time have dressed much differently from a middle class girl, and if so, what would be the main differences?

  • How many layers of clothes would a lady in the 1830s have worn?

I was hoping maybe someone could describe to me what sort of order all those underthings (chemise, corset, petticoats...) might have gone in. I think that stylish ladies wore more petticoats, but if you were working class, how many would be normal?

  • What do you think of Rousseau's ideas on education?

Just interested to see what other people have to say--no one I know offline seems to care about Genevan philosophers. I think Rousseau made some good points, particuarly for his time.

  • Good books on Polish history?

I'd love to learn more about Poland, particuarly the Partition of Poland. Most of the books at my library seem to be very dry and textbook-ish. Any recommendations?

  • How to incorporate historical fashion into my wardrobe?

I really love the styles of the Romantic Era/Victorian Ages, and in fact a part of me wants to dress in full costume all the time. There are a few things that stop me from doing this: the obvious impracticalities involved in wearing skirts; the cost of buying fabric to make the dresses; the fact that I might completely alienate myself from my peers. How would you suggest that I incorporate my love for old clothes into my normal style?

  • Why is it the fault of Voltaire?

In Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, Gavroche sings, "They're ugly in Nanterre, it's the fault of Voltaire, and stupid in Palaiseau, all because of Rousseau."

I was wondering if this was some sort of historical reference that I don't get, or just words that rhyme?

  • A question about headboards?

I have a full-size bed with a headboard already on it. But it's plain, wooden, and hidden by all the pillows anyway. I'd like to make one of those dramatic looking headboards, and I know how to do it, but would it be possible to actually use it, since I have an existing headboard?

  • Shabby chic crafts on a budget?

I'm a teenage girl looking to give my room more of the "shabby chic" look. I've searched around on the internet, and most projects seem to be about refinishing furniture. Unfortunately, that's pretty much out of the question for me because, well, it's still my parent's furniture and I doubt they'd be into such a big change.

I like sewing, though I'm not too experienced yet, so any simple sewing projects would be great.

I don't have much money to spend on materials, so the cheaper the better.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Easy ways to fight off a common cold before it really hits me?

I had a bit of a sore throat today, and I expect that by tomorrow it'll be much worse, 'cause that's how colds normally work for me. But, like I'm sure we all do, I have things to do tomorrow. So is there any way I could kill the cold before it gets to bad, or at least prevent it from getting much worse?

  • What would be standard punishment for a pickpocket in the early 1700s?

    In the Caribbean?

And if said pickpocket threatened someone with a knife?

Also, what was the term for a law enforcer in those days?

Thanks so much in advance. =)

  • A question to the people of Religion & Spirituality...?

    Hi. (:

I've been looking around and I notice the answers that reference faith in God are getting a lot of "thumbs downs". I was just wondering: do any of you feel a particular antagonism or dislike for Christians, and why?

  • A few questions regarding Facebook?

    Hi.

I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get a Facebook page of my own, and I would like to know more about the site, the various ways you can use it, and why it's useful to have one. How has Facebook made your life easier or more enjoyable?

Also, I know that you can set your profile to "private" so that only friends can see, but are there any more safety options that I should know about?

Basically, if you could provide some pros and cons for me, I'd adore that.

  • Can you still see the characters of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame at Orlando Disney?

I heard that they used to have "Festival of Fools" at Disneyland, but I don't think it ever reached Orlando. Is it possible to see any of the characters or events at Orlando?

  • Several questions regarding hair dye?

This is actually questions in one:

First of all, you probably have heard of a hair dye you can make at home using Kool-Aid mix. I've been told different things about this, like it washes out in a couple washes, or that it stays in for about a month. Has anyone tried this before and do they know how long it takes to come out?

Second, if the Kool-Aid doesn't work, do you know of any recipes that are good for VERY short-term periods of time? (Three or four days)

Third, if neither of those questions apply, do you know of any store-bought hair dyes that will wash out in a few days? I heard about some sort of hair dye from Hot Topic, but I never tried it and I don't know anyone who has.

    Thanks.

  • What is a quick, easy way to clear blackheads?

I wash my skin every morning and night, but I still have a lot of blackheads. My friend told me they're easy to pop, but that doesn't sound very healthy to me. Is there any sort of product or home remedy I can use? I have somewhat sensitive skin, if that changes anything.

  • Would any woman have a job during the early 1700s?

Silly question, I know, but I'm researching for a story and I'm wondering if a woman could have a profession as, say, a seamstress or a baker. (Think Mrs. Lovett's pie shop from Sweeney Todd.) Would that be socially acceptable for her to have a job there, as long as a man actually managed the business? If it makes any difference, this would all be happening in a town on a Caribbean island.
