A question to the people of Religion & Spirituality...?

Hi. (:

I've been looking around and I notice the answers that reference faith in God are getting a lot of "thumbs downs". I was just wondering: do any of you feel a particular antagonism or dislike for Christians, and why?

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, it happens all the time to me.

Jesus said that if they hated him, they would hate me too. (John 15:18-20) 18 If the world hates YOU, YOU know that it has hated me before it hated YOU. 19 If YOU were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because YOU are no part of the world, but I have chosen YOU out of the world, on this account the world hates YOU. 20 Bear in mind the word I said to YOU, A slave is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute YOU also; if they have observed my word, they will observe YOURS also.

    LOOK OUT, HERE THEY COME!!!

I'm not too concerned with the thumbs, since they don't really tell us why people like or dislike an answer.

But it seems to me that most of the thumbs down are for answers that reflect ignorance or egoism, no matter what the person's beliefs are.

If you're seeing it more with Christian responses, it might either be because you are a Christian (if you are), so you're looking more closely at those answers, or it might be that we see emotionally driven responses that are not thought out more from that group.

I'm not saying the latter is true. To my knowledge, there's never been a scientific poll about such matters on R&S. But psychologists do know that we tend to be more aware of the groups we identify with, so the first explanation may be the case.

Thumbs down are given to answers that are wrong, inaccurate or irrelevant. There is a high correlation of this to answers from religious people. I know others do it to answers they just don't agree with, but I don't - that's not the purpose of the thumbs.

    I can't thumbs down. I'm Level 1.

Even if I could, I don't thumbs down all god based answers. Only the really ignorant ones.

I was raised Christian, but never really believed. I've been a self-identifying agnostic since middle school. I married an atheist.

I honestly respect everyone's right to and right from religion. Having moved to GA from the north, I am so sick of Fundamentalist Christians trying to convert me. I rarely had the problem up North. And, no other religion has ever tried to convert me.

I was raised catholic, and I respect other people's opinions. When I get older, I'll probably have doubts as being a christian now. People change. I'm a christian, and I wouldn't go around down raving people's answers, just because they have a different belief.

I often give the thumbs down because, not to be antagonistic, but rather because such answers are usually not thought out and are unsupported.

I give thumbs down to bad atheistic answers or good religious answers when they are given.

I thought thumbs up or down where given to answers that were either good or bad not if it had to do with God or not.

You should thumbs down both theist and atheist answers that only aim at self-promotion or ridicule.
