A few questions regarding Facebook?
Hi.
I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get a Facebook page of my own, and I would like to know more about the site, the various ways you can use it, and why it's useful to have one. How has Facebook made your life easier or more enjoyable?
Also, I know that you can set your profile to "private" so that only friends can see, but are there any more safety options that I should know about?
Basically, if you could provide some pros and cons for me, I'd adore that.

Pros:
~stay in touch with friends in a variety of different ways including private IM's, private emails, and public "wall posts" which are comments directed at a friend but visible to everyone.
~keep your pictures in one place, and gain access to pictures of you that other people took, even if you never even knew that that picture was taken. Basically, if a friend takes a picture with you in it, puts it on her facebook, and lets facebook know that you're in that picture, the picture goes to your facebook as well, if you want.
~keep up with friends by reading their status messages. Reciprocate by updating your status, so people know what and how you're doing.
~pre-meet people or learn more about friends by reading their profile. Good for situations like getting acquainted with a roommate.
~learn about cool stuff by following links your friends post of things they found interesting.
~stay on top of relationship statuses so you know you're not wasting time... just don't admit to doing this.
Cons:
~No matter how private your page is, anyone with access to it can cut and paste and share your life with the entire world
~Habit forming, for people with certain personality types
~liability to employment, if you allow damaging pictures or comments to accumulate
~somewhat difficult to know what the right privacy level to use is.
~the IM client sucks
~the email client has limited functionality.
Summary:
facebook is great for people with friends they can't see all the time (either do to distance or being busy) It's also a decent way of moving a casual encounter along towards a real friendship or relationship. However, it requires some responsibility to make sure you stay safe, and their are other applications that accomplish many of the same things.

It's completely legal, and "FF" was within his rights to bring the bad relationship to his boss's attention. It isn't an invasion of privacy because Facebook is public. It's not much different than if your dad had walked into a bank or concert hall and shouted that the guy is a no good SOB. Everyone, and I mean everyone, needs to understand that your photos, posts, notes, and any other activity on Facebook is public domain and open to any and all who care to find it. An employer can refuse to hire you for those drunk pictures from your junior year of college, and they can fire you for saying how much to don't want to go work on Monday. Expect that everything can and will be read.

If you already have amyspace account and are moving to facebook, then your parnts should be happy. Facebook is very nice to keep in touch with the family and it is more private and not so "sleazy" as myspace. I just joined myself about 3 months ago and it has a little bit of Twitter in it, I guess that's what people like about it. It is not so crowded with bands and other things like Myspace. As a parent, I would be OK if my child went on facebook. Just start an account and if you want, have them sit with you and go through the privacy settings. They will be ok with it.

PRO'S
keep in touch with friends/family who you no longer see
easily make plans and contact friends/family
my favorite is if I need help or don't know what's for homework, or what time sport's practice or drama is.
and mostly have fun!
CON's
somewhat addicting.
But safety is honestly NO issue. You don't put your address, you can use a nickname rather than full name if you prefer, you can deny any friend requests, your profile and pictures are private along with any information, etc.
I hate nagging and spam, but could you please answer this, I'd really love as many opinions as possible! Thank you, i appreciate it greatly!

Facebook is a basic communication website that can easily access to your friends, family, or other relatives and even play games like "sims 3" that can chat with other people, Challenges questions or something like that. The Only thing you do is to have an anti-virus so your computer get into safety.
Hope that might help!

It's quite safe. Lewd photographs are banned from facebook. (This actually caused a good bit of consternation with breastfeeding mothers who tried to argue that breastfeeding pictures weren't lewd content, but they lost, which shows you how conservative facebook is.) No one can find you if you are set to private.
I have found a million little uses for facebook. You agree to meet a project partner you barely know at a certain time to start working, and they don't show up and you have to get in contact with them. You accept a ride from a fellow volunteer to a service site, lose your phone, and you need to find out if you dropped it in her car. You are planning to go to the movies with four friends this weekend, half of whom you don't have classes with, one of whom you don't have a phone number for, so you start a message thread on fb so everyone can be in on making arrangements. You meet a friend of a friend but had to leave unexpectedly before getting a phone number, so you send a friend request. These have all happened to me.

safety is really not an issue on facebook, unless you deliberately post sensitive information, there is no way for anyone to track you or anything. Cons are that you end up wasting alot of time on facebook, and if anyone takes an embarrassing pic of you, it will most likely end up on facebook for all your friends to see. But it is enjoyable because you can talk to your friends and check out what they are up to.

I mention facebook is quite safe and it also has its SWOT.. for example, you can be addicted with face book, especially they have some good games.. however, facebook is good for building networking and make a friend or find your old friend.
I've found my elementary school friend from facebook.. the dangerous thing on the internet is someone my hijack your photo.. However, Facebook prevent it by making a strict view from user who isn't ur friend..
I reckon get facebook account is not a bad idea
cheers mate

Facebook is great! Way better than Myspace. Its good because no one can add you that you dont want! You can put photo albums up and communicate with your friends. There are some cool games you can play. Its fun and easy.
I like it because i can see all my friends travel photos and stay in touch with friends overseas. I have no cons! 8)

"Convince your parents"? Woa, that's creepy. Are you in lockup?
Anyway, perhaps that sounded too hostile. Facebook, like msn, is only dangerous when you're stupid enough to let it. You decide who's your friend, you decide what info you share. Facebook also gives access to a lot of apps (some useful some not) you may like. I prefer it over netlog.
