Are some dog breeds more prone to distemper than others, or is that a myth?

Some dogs have worse immune systems. But that has nothing to do with breed, more with poor breeding. So that would be a myth that it depends on breed. Any dog can get distemper.

Any dog can get distemper regardless of breed. Bad breeding practices may make a dog more susceptible to it. All preventative shots should be given.

I can tell you that I have been informed by veterinarians that Dobermans, Rottweilers and Pit Bulls seem to be MORE susceptible to Parvo for some reason and it is of the utmost importance to get them their full series of shots before every allowing them in public areas.
That being said with distemper being so preventable, everyone should fully vaccinate their young dogs.

Very hot topic question.
I believe that some dogs are more prone to certain temperments, but every dog can be trained out of thier nasty habits.
And in my opinion... there are more dog breeders breeding these "naturally dangerous" dogs for fighting, guard dogs, ect... so there are more of them, and more of them are aggressive then not.
Alot of these "more aggressive breeds" usually just have a very large protective instict that can be behavioral trained as a puppy. You just socialize them with both people and other animals and dogs... and you make sure friends and family come over more often then usual to show them that people coming over to the house is a normal thing.
And contrary to belief... some of the more popular breeds of dogs that are pegged as family dogs... bit more often then people who get aggressive breeds as family dogs. Golden Retrievers tend to nip at a young age, and if not probably trained it will turn into biting.
Most of the people who own "aggressive breed" dogs have the sweetest and the most well behaved dogs i've ever known. And sadly... the ones that own dogs that aren't pegged as aggressive ... they tend to be the untrained over protective, snapping dogs.
It's all proper training and socializing...which some breeds just need MORE of then others.
well know Breeds pegged as aggressive and that need more training and socializing:
Pit bulls
Dobbermans
Rotweilers
Akitas
Unsuspecting breeds that need more training then others for thier known aggression and problem biting
German Shephards
Spaniels
Huskies
Golden Retrievers
Most small dogs
Breeds that usually don't need as much training because of thier mild temperment (but should still get lots of it anyway)
Newfoundlands
Saint bernards
Corgies
Standard Poodles
Labs
AND like dogs 101 says... not every dog is subject to general breed standards... every dog is thier own...and thus has thier own personality.
Everydog should be well trained and socialized at an early age.
