Atheiests- If you were ordered to pick a religion?

I better say the obvious, Buddhism

Maybe Judaism, or Buddhism? Does Taoism count as a religion? What about Celtic mysticism? Maybe I would be Wiccan... How closely would I have to adhere to the traditional beliefs? Islam is pretty, but I would be the most liberal Muslim you ever met. Or I could go with Reformed Catholicism and pray the rosary ever morning on the bus. What do the Quakers do again?

The one I know most about is Catholicism, which I was part of over 40 years ago.

Anyway, if I was forced to choose a religion, that would imply that I lived in a theocracy. I'd be among those who would resist that kind of regime, physically as well as politically, to the best of my ability for the sake of those who would come after me.

Buddhism

Buddhism isn't as atheistic as everyone presumes.

If you're suggesting that we would believe that religion, then none. I'd choose death over surrendering my mental autonomy. If you meant lipservice to survive under the bootheal of your totalitarian regime, then one of the reconstructionist pagan religions.

Judaism

Buddhism. I casually use the Eighfold Path as a kind of moral guide already.

I can't just "Pick" at an order.

We have hundreds of thousands of gods, goddesses, and other forms of major and minor deities dreamed up by man in the last 100,000 years to choose from!

Maybe Greek paganism - I can always find some appropriate gods to be devotional to, like Dionysos.

Then again, I could pay the odd devotion to the Maya god of chocolate, Chokola'j, too...

If I was supposed to fake it, Christianity. There are so many different denominations, heresies, and different ways of interpreting scriptures that there isn't anything about my life that would need to change.
