dpms kitty kat 7 inch barrel pistol?

hello i just bought a ar pistol ,,solid chrome barrel ,very loud ,but very accurate also ,i believe it was a kit Receiver and some one cut down a 20 inch chrome barrel ,,i didnt even see many till i bought now i know about some ,,,my question is if i pay 200.00 for sbr,will i still have a pistol or sbr ,,also has anyone else purchased one of these ,,i mean it will count im off non stop even with tula in a 100 round mag ,,ive killed dump rats till vultures look like ostrichess

hello,,,it came with a carbine recoil tube on it without the stock ,,,i bought it as a pistol

    If it was sold as a "pistol", it is a "pistol". If it was sold as a short barrel rifle, it's an SBR, and requires the $200 stamp. I don't see any reason that you'd need to register it as an SBR.

    If the receiver never had a butt stock on it, it is a hand gun and will remain a handgun until you register it as a SBR and pay the tax or put a buttstock on it. Once you put a butt stock on it, it will for ever be a rifle and you can not install or own a barrel less than 16" unless it is registered as a SBR. If you put a butt stock on it, it is illegal to install a barrel less than 16" or even own one according to the latest ruling by the BATFE. If you register it as an SBR, you can put any barrels on it that you want and use it with or without a butt stock installed.
