How to get a wider back rim on a 1976 KZ400?
I am working on restoring/customizing a 1976 Kz400. The back tire/rim seems to be extremely thin. Is there a way to get a slightly wider tire/rim on this bike? Ifso how? I also have thought of trying a KZ1000 rim. Would this work?

You might be able to go wider on the tire, depending on how much room you have between the tire's sidewall, and the swingarm.

The rim isn't the problem exactly, a wider rim could be laced onto the hub but your tire size is still determined by the clearance around the existing swing-arm and brake system.
You'll need to customize the whole rear-end.

As said, you can have a wider rim laced to the hub.
HOWEVER, you need to check fender clearance, swing arm clearance (as others said) and that the chain doesn't rub the side of the tire.
