What would you say are common characteristics between heroes and villains?

1. Both have powers or abilities or great minds

2. Both are fighting for ideals

3. Both want to make an impact on society

4. Both always enocounter the other

5. Both are sentient beings (usually)

A hero is someone who does something extraordinaryily beyond them. Columbus was an explorer, he explored. Nope not a hero. Life in his time was cheap. We so often judge our ancestors by todays standards. Kingdoms were built and destroyed (Romans, Greeks, Persia, France, England, Spain, Portugal - where are they now?) . It is only the last 100 years or so that we have had relative peace. And even that... so no, not a villain. He was a brave, intrepid explorer with a dream of expanding the kindom he served. To have made it here and back took aot of brains and balls!
