Lets face it, even if Floyd Mayweather beats Manny Pacqauio it will never be enough until he losses ?
Now that Floyd Mayweather is getting closer to a fight with Manny Pacqauio and eventually retiring its obvious that the criticism of his opponents only comes from the fact that the general public only wants to see him lose. Whom ever he fights will never be considered a "real test" everyone is to old, slow, or past their prime once Floyd Mayweather beats him.
If you look at all of Floyd Mayweather's last four opponents Shane Mosley KO'd Antonio Margarito before losing to Floyd, Juan Manuel Marquez KO'd Juan Diaz before losing to Floyd, Ricky Hatton KO'd Jose Louis Castillo before losing to Floyd, and Oscar Dela Hoya KO'd Ricardo Mayorga before losing to Floyd however all these fighters are old, slow, and overrated once he beats them.
I found this ESPN Interview of Brain Kenny drilling Floyd Mayweather for not fighitng Ricky Hatton and Carlos Baldimor instead of Zab Judah.
http://www.youtube.com/user/NormenBatez#p/a/f/0/pm...
But then Once he fights and beats these two fighters its now Shane Mosley their blasting him for not fighitng.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhpObxNl_6Y
Well we all know that he beats Shane Mosley and all of a sudden its Manny Pacquaio that everyone is pushing him to fight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEX-s0zNvvk&feature...
Truth being told no matter who Floyd Maywather beats they'll always be someone else that he's claimed of ducking. I hope that Floyd retires after he fights Pacqauio because the public has only created this list just so they can some how build a fighter to beat him.
Any thoughts ?

It's pretty clear (pun intended) who is the best P4P boxer on the planet, and other than Manny Pacquiao, there really isn't any reason for Floyd to fight anyone else. No matter what Floyd does, his critics will always put a negative slant on his accomplishments, but the reality is his list of opponents is as solid and top notch as any in the last 20 years. My only real criticism of Floyd was that he didn't fight Shane, and when he did, we saw the result. Those who criticized Floyd for being a runner were silenced, Mayweather stood toe to toe with Mosley and never took a backward step, and I gave Floyd 11 of the 12 rounds, he even silenced Larry Merchant. The only way Floyd will lose is if he allows Father Time to do to him what age does to everyone. Nobody from Floyd's age bracket has much of a chance to beat him. Manny Pacquiao, PEDs or not would be an underdog against Floyd with a punchers chance and a win over Manny wouldn't really change Floyd's legacy much, everyone knows who the best in the business is whether they fight or not. My opinion of Manny has always been positive, Pacquiao was great for boxing, but given his new political career, I a pretty (pun intended) sure we will most likely see the end of Manny's boxing career, realistically it's almost impossible to remain a world class boxer under such circumstances.
Mayweather sits alone atop the boxing world with no where to go but down if he moves up in weight. A move to 154 or 160 serves no real purpose for Floyd, and there is nobody left at 147 that would provide a meaningful fight. Time will tell, but no matter what Floyd does, he will always have a group of critics yapping in the background, it's best to ignore the negatives and focus on the positives. Cotto, Clottey and possibly Berto are Floyd's only real alternatives to Pacquiao, and obviously those are minor events at best. A crack at Martinez's 160 lb. title that he took from Pavlik would be a stretch, but possible and raise a little interest, but Floyd is so good just about anything will be almost an after thought without settling the Pacquiao question. Circumstance doesn't favor a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight and I will be very surprised if they ever fight. Great question, I enjoyed your premise, you proved your point, no matter what Floyd does, it will never be enough for some people. Well done.

You make some great points in your question. I think Manny is the only question mark in Floyd's career left really and I dont even think Floyd really needs him and I think he would beat him easily, but its been a pretty long time since any fighter has been as highly regarded and hyped as Manny has been. I dont think the fans and public have ever demanded a fight as much as they are this 1. So assuming Floyd fights Manny and beats him he could retire the next day and people should bow down to him and worship him considering how they treat Pacquiao like a God already. At that point there would be nobody left of note for him to fight , if he wanted to continue to fight for money or glory he could take on guys like Berto or go up and fight Martinez or Williams but he wouldnt HAVE to or NEED too and at that point I would hope everyone would be satisfied after a win over Pacquiao . The thing is Floyd aint that old yet and said when he came out of retirement he was only gonna fight the best as well as his manager/promoter said he is gonna fight them all. The win against Mosley was very impressive and i give him full credit. I just feel the 2 guys regarded as the best fighters in the world should fight 1 another , after that nobody can say nothing , i dont think they really could even now but everyone is screaming for this fight, after that fight it wont matter but i just think Floyd defintley has a couple more huge mega fights left in him and im sure he wouldnt mind the cash. I personally dont feel Floyd has ducked anyone at this point.

I agree with everything you said. Boxing fans who hate Floyd will always say that he is either ducking somebody or he should fight the fighter who is hot at that particular moment to prove his worth.
And the thing is, is that there will always be a great up and coming boxer. It is the nature of the sport. A few years ago, Cotto was the great up and coming boxer. Everyone felt that Floyd is ducking him. But now Cotto have a few losses, they no longer feel as strongly about Cotto. Then it was Margarito, then Margarito got exposed. It was always Mosley, even though Mayweather called Mosley out for 5 years. Now they are throwing out names like Williams, Berto, Bradley, and Martinez. My point is, is that there will always be some up and coming boxer. And until that boxer loses a fight and loses their greatness, the fans will aways say that Floyd is either ducking that person or he needs to fight that person to solidify his greatness. However, I am convinced that this group of fans will never be satisfied.
Throughout Floyds career, prior to Mayweathers fights with Corrales, Gatti, DeLaHoya, and Hatton, boxing fans felt that Mayweather was going to be dominated by these guys. But once he stepped in to the ring with these guys, he was able to silence the auditorium and silence his critics for 36 minutes (twelve 3 minute rounds or fewer rounds). However, after the fights, the critics researched the boxing ranks, found the next great prospects, and insisted that Mayweather fight these guys. They are never satisfied.
And interesting enough, the guys that the boxing fans felt that he was going to have the most problems with were heavy handed hitters (i.e. Corrales, Gatti, and Hatton), he silenced them with a masterful fight plan and refused to be sucked into a slug fest. I think at the end of the day, the boxing fans want to solve the mysterious riddle of how to beat Mayweather defense, footwork, and speed. Also they want to humble him. The fans really crave to find this answer. Like hearing a question that you really, really need to know the answer to so you can sleep... .Many fans really want to know how to beat Floyd. So they will always throw out another name of a boxer who is hot at that particular moment.... simply to find the answer as to how to beat Floyd.

If the fight outsells the Pacquiao-Clottey fight that really doesn't prove a whole lot. Mosley has a huge following as does FLoyd, whereas Pacquiao was really the only attraction in his last fight. Either way, there is no way that FLoyd can possibly move past Pacquiao as far as the P4P rating goes. Clottey fought so defensively that he never gave himself a chance to win the fight. Every fighter that actually tried to fight Pacquiao in his prior 3 fights got destroyed, and Mayweather doesn't deliver that same kind of punishment, and not nearly often enough. Mayweather will not do to Mosley what Pacquiao did to Cotto. Mayweather didn't come close to doing to Oscar what Pacquiao did to him. I'm picking Floyd to beat Mosley, but that still keeps him at no. 2 in my book. Pacquiao's last two years have been as dominating as any two years in Floyd or Roy Jones' careers (previous P4P kings). When's the last time Floyd moved up in weight and knocked somebody out? It was Sharmba Mitchell in Nov. of 2005. It's just my opinion of course, but Floyd has to beat the top P4P guy in order to be called the top P4P guy. But this question is also about the testing. Talk of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will include purses around the $50 million mark, so if Pacquiao still refuses at that point then I myself will say once and for all that Pacquiao's hiding something. If he wants to retire, and be a politician than that's fine, but if he says he wants to keep fighting, but won't do the random testing for $50 million, well I just don't believe it. It's too easy to do that kind of testing, and he could have blood drawn from a vein in his ankle or calf or something, where there's no bend like in your elbow. The amount of blood can be so small if they have the most advanced testing available that I just don't understand really.

All the haters...including the writer haters are really ignorant. To extend this great bit of information you provided, Brian Kenny brought up Kostya Tzyuz who Floyd called out when he was fighting at Lightweight and Kostya did not want him. Everyone they mention, floyd fights and beats...then they diminish the fighter by saying he's old, slow, etc etc...I remeber artcles before the Gatti fight questioning Mayweather's ability to survive Gatti's power and we all know what happened there. These naysayer also have put away the memory of how Mayweather took on an undefeated titlist in Diego Corrales who was 33-0 (with 27KO)...people talk about him like he was no real challenge...ignorance. Should the guy be penalized for making these champions look like nothing. He si 16-0 vs. past, present, and future champions...yet he's fought no one...it's crazy.

To answer your first question which is hypothetical that IF and only IF PBF's gonna defeat Pac critics will still not appreciate May's effort to be a great boxer. IMO, it is maybe because of the way he promotes himself which is very effective to hype up the his fights, the way he carry his self to be a thug looking, money spending and bragging image. Let's face it, people that look at you as a VILLAIN in the sport will always find some time to discredit what you have earned and to the point wishing someday someone will gonna silence you. But saying this is not discrediting PBF's career and greatness. It is just that MAYBE and IMO that the boxing community is looking at him that way. Ok, let's put it in this way. PBF is very succesful in promoting his fights by playing and taunting his opponents and incorporating it with too much confidence and arrogance. But somehow, he payed the price by being someone to be perceive as the VILLAINS of all VILLAINS and like any other fairy tale, audience expect someone to end that. At least it is me only thinking on why PBF is still being discredit to what he have achieved in his brilliant boxing career.
Also, some thoughts to ponder. Isn't it the same to Pacman? The same things have been also said about Pacquiao that the big opponents he faced will be too much for him and after it was said and done, critics always came up with reasons to discredit what he have achieved.
So what is the common thing about the two P4P boxers? isn't it they have both greatness? The thing is, MAYBE people?critics will start to throw stones to trees that are fruitful.

I agree, but isn't that Mayweather's great commercial achievement? Having created a persona that sells tickets to those who want to see him lose, he really can't complain.
But in all honesty, Mayweather is going to go down as one of the greats. But there is just one more fight that this guy has to face. And that's Manny Pacquiao. And IF he beats him (I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet) I really don't see the need to go after the middleweights. It would make more sense to make the Pacquiao match a trilogy if people were pleased with what they see. Then he really retires with a bang.

Floyd could have fought a younger Mosley who hadn't fought for 18 months, he could have fought Cotto a few years ago, he could fight Paul Williams tomorrow if he wanted.
But you are right in the sense that you will never be able to fight everybody when everybody wants, that's just the nature of a sport that does not have a unified governing body.
I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. The division is real weak, if it was strong then they wouldn't need to bring up the world's best lightweight in Manny Pacquiao to fight the world's best welterweight in Floyd Mayweather.
- J@psLv 61 decade ago
I only hope both May and Pac agree to fight and agree to fight this year.
And you are correct, there are people out there who wants to see Money lose and lose big. But thats what he get for being the way he is, he will get his share of fans because of his skill and his attitude but by the same token he will get his share of "haters" who will buy tickets and ppv just to see him go down.

This is true. Guys who excel in sports always have people who try to discredit their victories. It's really only after they retire that the public starts to appreciate their accomplishments.
One thing about Floyd though is that he makes it easy for people not to like him, thus not giving him credit. He's created this whole "bad boy persona" to sell fights. It's worked so well that a lot of people genuinely don't like him and it makes it hard for them to give him credit.
