Do you like when people chat with you on Facebook?
Sometimes when I just want to quickly get on and off I feel trapped by the chats. Sometimes I don't respond when I'm rushing.

It sometimes can be inconvenient to be sent a message by a friend when you're not in the mood to have a conversation or you don't have the time.
Facebook has a few settings that can help you keep the noise down.
If you want to just turn Facebook chat off, you can go offline, like pictured here: http://screencast.com/t/NzAxNmRl
Or, you can sort your friends into lists and only let the friends you wish to see that you're online. See facebook's blog post on the subject for details on how to do so. (link in sources below)

I've never chatted on Facebook. I think I saw a button for chat at the bottom of the screen, but I've never gone near it.

Nope, I've been appearing offline for 5 straight months.
Although I do have a specific list of about 20 "good" people who i will sometimes appear online to.
And of course I have a special list of people who will never, ever be able to see when I'm online.

Depends on who it is haha.
I have two separate chat lists, one for people I want to talk to, another for everyone else (who I just show up as offline for).

I would rather them chat me on facebook than keep texting me constantly

I don't like Facebook chat - can lag my computer when people talk to me on it but I like to leave it on to see who's on.
I normally tell them to talk to me on MSN.
