What's the difference between apposition and parenthesis?
La diferencia, Omar, entre tú y yo es que yo no ando pidiendo opinión sobre mi negocio de bolsas para celular, de venta de chocolate, de comida ni nada de eso :)
Sí, me agrada ser diferente a ti.

It is a very fine distinction, but as far as I understand it apposition places two concepts together by way of helpful and constructive explanation, while parenthesis is an incidental statement at what might be termed a further remove.
My brother, the police inspector, is receiving a decoration.
(Apposition, as it is identifying the brother concerned and suggesting why he is being decorated.)
My brother, who had recently arrived from Brazil, was with me on that occasion.
(Parenthesis, as the fact that my brother had recently arrived from Brazil is not strictly relevant to what I am saying.)
My sister, who is a brilliant cook, is taking charge of the catering.
(Apposition, as the fact that my sister is a brilliant cook explains why she is in charge of the catering.)
My aunt, who has never liked travel, nevertheless agreed to accompany us.
(Parenthesis, as the fact that she has never liked travel does not explain why she agreed to accompany us.)

Apposition:
1. Grammar
a. A construction in which a noun or noun phrase is placed with another as an explanatory equivalent, both having the same syntactic relation to the other elements in the sentence; for example, Copley and the painter in The painter Copley was born in Boston.
Middle English apposicioun, from Latin appositi, appositin-, from appositus, past participle of appnere, to put near;
2. (Linguistics / Grammar) a grammatical construction in which a word, esp a noun phrase, is placed after another to modify its meaning
Hope you find it useful. Mind you, this is almost the same as in Spanish. The use of parenthesis may vary in the way many Spnish speakers use it to write side comments but essentially it is the same.

Parenthesis: An expression that amplifies or explains a passage. It is usually set off by parentheses.
Apposition: The placing of two nouns, or their equivalents, that refer to the same thing or person next to each other without being joined by a conjunction construction. Ex: "My brother Brad" rather than "My brother, whose name is Brad". The word can also refer the relation of pair of nouns or their equivalents.
