Will getting layers make my hair thinner or thicker?

Ok so I have super thick, poofy blonde hair. It's about down to my chest and I've always worn it at one length. But I've been considering a new hairstyle since I'm going into high school next year, and I think I should try layers. I've heard that they make your hair thinner, but I've also heard it makes it thicker. So I don't know. Will layers make my hair thinner or thicker? And what other hairstyles might make it thinner? Thanks.

thinner, i have the same problem. when i wore my hair all at one length it took forever to style so i got layers put in my hair to see if it would help. trust me it's a life saver. try getting the top layer cut to the top of your ears then the other down at your chin. it makes it look full but feels soo much thinner.

depends on where and how its layered

if the hairdresser cuts it from the top, it will be bigger on the top

if the layers are longer, then it will probably be thinned out more

ask the hairdresser on what to do =)
