the main character of the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?

i think Kyon cuz hes the first character introduced. the story is from his point of view and he tells about his experiences with haruhi. u can say haruhi is not the main character but still very .

important to the series.

Ive not read the light novels but i have seen the anime. Going from that, i would say that Kyon is the primary "main"character seeing as the stories are told from his perspective. Haruhi is what i would call a secondary main character.

Another way to figure it out is in the reading, are any of them written in first person? If so, then the person who is speaking in first person is the "main".If you cant get it from that, read through it and see who the stroy follows most. In theg anime, I cant think of a time when kyon wasnt in the given scene, if teh same is true for the novel then kyon is the main, but if it follows the other characters and excludes him then im not sure what to say.

Kyon is. The story is just basically about his adventures with the wacky Haruhi and her weird ideas right and how he's like the only one who can stop the destruction of the world etc etc... Haruhi and her actions are just the stimuli to the craziness that ensues, lol.

In continuation to the first answer, there's also a new movie, "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya", which had come out just last year... I believe. It's probably not translated yet, but I'm sure it will be soon.

I dunno, I mean, it's named The Melancholy of Haruhi. Haruhi is the one who has the power to change the world, and Kyon is merely like a spectator, the one Haruhi chose. He just provides commentary. Haruhi made the SOS Brigade and all the events center around what goes on in her mind. HARUHI IS GOD AND HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD XD

Kyon because he is the connection to reality that she lacks and because of him the others can help to deal with what she does. so Kyon is the most important one and main character.
