I still like the old wooden floors drop pocket tables

chalk hanging from a string with a layer of smoke

40s or 50s style like in the orig Hustler movie.

    Hey Johnny,

It's been too long my friend. I'm afraid the days of the pool room you described have long since vanished, at least in my part of the county. I can do without the plush carpeting, brass rails at the bar, neon beer signs every blank space on a wall, and the plants in the corner.

A room with a dozen tables or so suites me just fine, with five to six feet between the tables so there's room to walk around. Spread some chairs around for the players. Granted, I'm not usually sitting down for any length of time but it's nice to know there's somewhere to sit if I want to. I'm partial to 9 footers with drop pockets and the traditional green felt. Wood floors give the room a lot of character and amplifies the breaking of a rack. A nice bright light above the table is adequate. A juke box is fine as long as it's "background" music. If I want to go somewhere and listing to music that's so loud that you can't hear yourself think, I'll buy a concert ticket. That's my idea of a pool room.

    Don't be a stranger!

Hey Johnny. Good to see you drop by again.

I prefer 9-footers, well-spaced. Some background oldies or classic rock that doesn't drown out the click of the balls, but provides enough of a beat to jam to if you're in the mood. It'd be nice if there were a couple tables in a mini arena, a couple steps down from the main floor, with room for railbirds to perch and watch (I'm thinking like Carom Cafe in Flushing, NY). Heck, maybe even a balcony or mezzanine to watch over all the action. Good lighting on the tables is a must, and minimize the sunlight and open windows please.

But who are we kidding? Pool halls like we dream of wouldn't make any money...

Just about any pool room, but I could do without the smoke. My favorite place is Paradise Pool and Billiards in Corpus Christi. They have a "serious" side 9 ft Leibacher(??) tables and the "social" on the opposite side to keep the amatuers from bothering or getting in the way....music oldies will do....a lot of Hank Willilams and I am in..."the news is out all over town, that you've been seen a running 'round.......I love you still, what can I do?".......and maybe Scarlette Johannson sitting there waiting for be to beat the "dickens" out of you Johnny.....Hea! You asked....I can dream, can't I?.....odds of me getting Scarlette are probably better then beating you!!...as I said my "dream" place!!....really glad to see you back and still around, we are both at the back end of our "run" but this is one "run out" we don't really want....see ya buddy!

I like a place with 9 Foot tables with tough pockets. I like a place that is roomy and the people are friendly and maybe a snooker table. I like the old fashioned places myself also though I could also do without the smoke

The Hall that i play in is nice we have two pool halls that compete in my area. one is run down tables are crap, roll bad, and the original felt from 1970's. the other is class, this is the hall that i play in. nice tables with new felt every 6 months or so 2 Diamond Pro Am tables the same ones that you see on espn, dart boards, beer, cues for sale along with accessories and some of the best competition in the cincinnati area. always something going on always someone to play.

Source(s): been playin for a couple of years

INDIOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! haha, long time no see :) :) I haven't been on in a long while, myself :(

Anyway, to answer your question..I think the best pool room to play in, one that I feel that confidence, energy, racks breaking, and vibes of competitors is in a TOURNAMENT room. Yep, I can still feel that sense of anxiety when I walk in a room and see all those players...wondering who all are gonna be my steps up the ladder. haha. Wooden or solid flooring, drop pockets, yes, smoking, but with ventilation :P, hanging table lamps (old school) and turquoise Master chalk..hanging from my pocket..cuz I aint gonna be sharing my chalk with nobody. haha..Nice dog, by the way...she looks just like my boy, Hercules...except his patches are a little darker...((HuGz))

Hi Johnny! Glad to see you about again. I had asked several about you not long ago.

Oh yes, your question...the expensive kind!

    Luck

Any pool room, where I can get in a good game of billiards, is A-OK with me.
