Is a trumpet vine a parasite?
I have a trumpet vine and it is wrapped around my maple tree, will it harm the tree?
The maple is an older tree, well established, and the vine I cut down each year, but I was going to leave it if it wouldn't harm the tree.

Yes and no. No it isn't a parasite, but yes, eventually it will strangle your tree. They grow quite heave and thick vined, and will cling to whatever they can to maintain their own support.
But on the bright side, you can transplant it, keep it trimmed, and it will be beautiful, and as an added bonus, it attract butterflies and hummingbirds like mad.

Trumpet vine is not a parasite. However, it is a weed and can be harmful to your tree. Much depends on the size of your maple, how vigorous it is growing and the growth rate of the trumpet creeper. Without that information, any recommendation given will be mere shots in the dark.
