Actually you are right, it does not mention anywhere that he is not an egg! And not many people have noticed that! Cheers!

Therefore, you may read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humpty_dumpty which will definitely shed some new light on Humpty Dumpty!

Cheers again though! Its good to see that there are other people out there that notice trivial things that concern things most people take for granted!

Have a great day, hope this link helps! :D

"....the reality that Humpty Dumpty is an egg isn't somewhat pronounced interior the rhyme. In its first revealed type, in 1810, that's a riddle, and exploits for misdirection the reality that "humpty dumpty" become 18th-Century reduplicative slang for a short, clumsy individual. while an ungainly individual falling off a wall does no longer be irreparably broken, an egg could be. The rhyme is now no longer posed as a riddle, via fact the respond is now so properly regularly occurring...."

"....the certainty that Humpty Dumpty is an egg isn't actual reported interior the rhyme. In its first revealed form, in 1810, that's a riddle, and exploits for misdirection the certainty that "humpty dumpty" replaced into 18th-Century reduplicative slang for a quick, clumsy man or woman. while an awkward man or woman falling off a wall does not be irreparably broken, an egg may well be. The rhyme is now not posed as a riddle, because of the fact the respond is now so nicely consumer-friendly...."

The original poem was a riddle, and "an egg" was the answer (riddles used to be a little different back then). The riddle was very well known -

So when Lewis Carroll decided to put the character in his book "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", the man who was illustrating the book just naturally drew him that way - since he knew the famous riddle.

Time went by, and the book and the rhyme endured, but the riddle aspect was forgotten.

In the original "Alice Through The Looking Glass" story, from where the rhyme is from, he was illustrated as an egg.

    1. the nursery rhymes are for kids and to attract their attention all the rhymes have pictures with them. so in the books they show an egg on the wall.

    2. the rhyme was actually a riddle and the answer for it was Egg. it was so appreciated that it became a nursery rhyme.
