Is it possible for a boss to reconsider an applicant?

If a company has advised that a person is not going to be hired, can they reconsider if an applicant sends a carefully thought out thank you letter in which any concerns that arose in the interview are answered? **Basically, can an employer say that you are not hired, but then reconsider and hire you afterall?

    Of course it's *possible*, but it's unlikely.

    First of all, even if you think you know what their concerns are from what happened in the interview, you can't know if you're right, or if those are the only reasons, or the real reasons.

    Secondly, if concerns really did arise in the interview that you were aware of, why didn't you address them at that time? Sure, you can write a letter afterwards, but the fact that you didn't address issues during the interview may tell them that you aren't assertive enough or can't think on your feet.

    Bottom line, writing a letter can't hurt if it's worded properly, but it will only give you a second chance if:

    - You were really close to getting the job except for one or two minor things you can address;

    - and they're under pressure to fill the position;

    - and they can't find anyone else better than you in time.

    Not good odds, but I guess people have overcome worse odds!

    once a manager makes his mind he can still change it if any new events happened.
