is java script even necessary?
Java Script has been more of a nuisance than a tool. Every time I log on it wants to be updated and interrupts what I am doing. Even when I upgrade it continues to harass me. Would I just be better off un-installing or should I leave it be?

I agree with the previous posters: JavaScript is a fixed part of modern browsers and the interpreter for it is either not updated independently of the browser OR it is done transparently --I've never noticed JavaScript being updated and I am both a heavy and a pretty knowledgeable Internet/computer user (with a degree in the field). To determine whether you consider JavaScript('s functionality) a nuisance, you could simply disable it in the properties of your browser. However, the vast majority of sites nowadays require JavaScript, so disabling it may be detrimental to your browsing experience.
I suspect you're really talking about Java, an entirely different language. It does require occasional updates which come with annoying pop ups. What you can do is remove jusched.exe (assuming you're using Windows) from the list of programs that Windows automatically starts on startup. The jusched (Java Update SCHEDuler) connects to the Sun servers to check for updates. If you disable this, then you'll have to check for updates manually --but it also speeds up your computer if ever so slightly.

That's a very strange situation. Usually, when malware is discovered in a file, the discovering program tries to handle it directly. It doesn't tell you to uninstall the offending program, partly because that's often blocked by the malware. Are you confident that the reporting program is something you put there in the first place? Java isn't needed by Windows, but it might be by programs you installed separately. You should be able to uninstall it from the Add or Remove Program window: In Windows XP: 1. Click on the Start->Control Panel menu item. 2. Click on Add or Remove Programs. 3. After the right-hand pane fills, find Java and select it. 4. Click the Remove button. In Windows Vista, possibly Windows 7: 1. Click the Start button, then Control Panel. 2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program. 3. After the right-hand pane fills, find Java and select it. 4. Click Uninstall on the menu line. Hope that helps.

Are you sure it's JavaScript and not Java? Java and JavaScript are different things. I've never heard anyone having to install or update JavaScript on a browser. What browser are you using?
Plus if you're having to update Java every day then surely everybody else would be?
Maybe you have a virus...
