Brakes on a 1979 Pontiac LeSabre?

The car seems to lose breaking power intermittently, they are powered brakes.

I tried pumping them but the peddle wouldn't come back up fast enough.

It has had the master cylinder replaced several times, but like I said it just seems to do it whenever it feels like it, and I think it was just luck that it didn't happen right after it was replaced.

Or maybe it did work but something else is destroying master cylinders..?

What could be wrong?

The master cylinder is made to last for the life of the vehicle; replacement more than once indicates trouble somewhere else................have the brakes been properly bled ?? Are the wheel cylinders ( not the same as the master cylinder ) in good working order, or possibly leaking ??. There are not too many components that can be faulty............
