Do you find it a bit odd that both pedophiliaand homosexuality were considered mental disorders at one point?

Pedophilia is a sexual paraphilia. Based on DSM-IV (it's standard diagnostic tool in Psychiatry), Pedophilia still falls under MENTAL DISORDER.

Eventhough Pedophilia is a mental disorder it could never be tolerated, because when a person is committing "child sexual abuse" -- the pedophile has a "LUCID MIND" -- he knows what he's doing.

It's a mental disorder NOT a psychosis. Since he has a lucid mind, the pedophile is liable to his criminal acts, thus PUNISHABLE by law.

Homosexuality is not considered as a mental disorder based on DSM-IV. It's a "preference" NOT a mental disorder. Though in the older version (DSM-III, they classified it as a mental disorder)

The latest version is DSM-IV, it is used by Psychiatrists in diagnosing patients.

I don't find it odd at all. Because it's true:

what is REALLY odd, is that before this 'ultimatum' in the 70s, homosexuals were the "homophobics". Now, in mainstream society, those of us who do not accept it are considered homophobic. How laughably ironic. The other ironic thing is that homosexuals do prey on children. "73% of all homosexuals have had sex with boys under 19 years of age. Many homosexuals admit that they are pedophiles: "The love between men and boys is at the foundation of homosexuality".(2)

Pedophelia will unlikely have its status changed, at least in the near future. Most people in general will never tolerate the idea of adults preying on children as their sexual targets. Homosexuals want us to believe that their behaviour is not a choice. Then why is pedophilia connected to it? Children do not have any 'thoughts' about sexual behaviour whatsoever. If they do, it is prematurely "taught" to them - BY ADULTS.

I think that there are a handful of researchers in the field that are looking at pedophilia as a mental pathology, rather than as a choice, but only a handful.

Most prominent of these is Dr. James Cantor, associate professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and editor of the peer-reviewed journal Sexual Abuse. To summarize what I've heard him say on the subject: the subject of attraction is not voluntarily chosen by a person, be it to members of the same sex or to children. But behavior is absolutely chosen by the individual, and while consenting adults may engage in same-sex relationships, the person with the attraction to children is more or less forced to live a life of celibacy if he or she does not engage in predatory behavior.

This is a reason to feel sorry for paedophiles, in that they suffer from a disorder that causes them to want to do something that they absolutely cannot. Those that do act on their desires, however, the pederasts, cause extreme harm and must be stopped.

Homosexuality is fundamentally different in that, while their desires may be 'abnormal', in that they are a comparatively rare group, they are not in any way harmful to anyone, thus there is no reason at all to want to stop them acting on them. Further, homosexuality is sufficiently prevalent to suggest that there must be some evolutionary reason for it. For this reason, it is very difficult to continue to classify it as a 'disorder'. The same cannot be said of paedophilia.

Paedophilia will never become legal, even if it is no longer considered to be a mental disorder one day. It all comes down to 'consenting adults'. Sorry if that was not what you were getting at (legality). It just looked that way.

40 yeasr ago, if you said to me homosexuality would be legal in 2010 no one would have believed you.

Societal attitudes change and I think because of the sexual revolution, ACLU and liberal progressives pushing for freedom for all it eventualy will be legal (sadly)

Both are a choice.

Whether a person takes that way of escape or not, is up to them.

Anorexia is a mental health problem, how long before you try to infer there is a link with that too?

Homosexuals are not pedophiles - please refrain from inferring any sort of link.

Just because something is legal doesnt make it right.

In a world lacking absolutes lots of grey its really sad.
