Why do men and women need to hear "I love you"?

Actions seem more meaningful, to me. The words are so easy to say but the action is hard to fake. In my opinion and experience I would rather rely on the action to gage one's heart but most people I know press for those words ~ and often. Why?

Saying I Love You can be more of a habit than actually meaning it.

I would know if they were just words, or words with a meaning.

Yes ,actions speak louder than words. In my family we never passed up a chance to hug and kiss each other. Especially when we were parting. I've heard people say, I wish I had said good by and gave them a hug, not knowing that would be the last time you saw them. It's nice for someone to say I Love You. It just makes the day brighter and you problems easier to cope with knowing someone cares.

Be sure it's true, when you say I LOVE YOU

    It's a sin to tell a lie

So be sure it's true, when you say I LOVE YOU

Please don't break my heart into.

Everyone's different. Some needs to hear it, some don't. Actions are meaningful, I agree, but I like to hear it too. Hugs, kisses (not making out), giving, etc. I've been doing to friends and family since I was a child so it's natural for me. Words, on the other hand, are a lot harder than actions, especially in saying how I truly feel about someone. It actually takes a lot for me to say "I love you" and actually mean it because they are strong words. It's a small reminder that tells me that the person feels the same way as I do and it makes the feelings of small, insignificant insecurities, or even small doubt, subside. Plus, you have to admit, those 3 small words can make someone smile at the drop of a hat :)

    What Men Need To Hear

You are right with one but. Women (feminine humans) like to feel they are loved. This does not really include hearing or reading the words. Men (male humans) on the other hand have no such need. Surprised? What men like is to feel respected. Remember the song?

Neither of these two groups may be aware of the above but that does not prevent it from being the truth of the matter.

    Cheers !

I can only imagine that those that press for words are the ones that are unsure if there are feelings of love from the party they are pressing.

My husbands actions show he loves me, the expression in words is just a bonus.

Actions of love are great. But the definite reassurance of love is meaningful too.

Anyone can say "I Love You." Most of the people always lie. So that's why I agree with you. Actions conquer words. (:

I myself like to be reassured by my loved one and just love hearing him say it. Sometimes I get mad when he doesn't show it. So yes, I do believe actions speak louder than words. It shouldn't be a word just said so easily. Both partners need to mean it and act like it.

Its because we all grew up watching all those Disney movies.

Its been hammered in our minds that the ultimate signal of love is those three words 'I love you.'

Oh, and maybe avenging your father's death and becoming king of the pride lands, or rescuing your princess with the help of a genie from a crazed gold digger, or becoming a man to fight the chinese terrorists, or losing your voice to express your love before the sun setting on the final day.

    Haha :)
