Anti-virus, spyware program combinations?
Hi, I'm wondering about what the best options are?
My situation, bought a new laptop with Mcafee trial, but it has expired. Read a lot of stuff on this site and now have the following combination...
Avast anti-virus
Malwarebytes anti-malware
Super antispyware
Spybot S&D (as back up)
and Windows Defender
also running Firefox as main browser with NoScript and SiteAdvisor installed.
Just 2 questions...
Is this a safe combo?
and (more important)
Should i turn Defender off (because of conflicts)?
Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated.
yes they all are the free versions

This is my set up and as you can see it's pretty damn close to yours. I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.

Anti-virus and anti-spyware are different. However, some nice anti-spyware programs have anti-virus as well. It's best if you have both, especially if you use a PC. Spybot search and destroy is great and it's free, and either Norton or Mc Affee are great programs as well, both of which you could get free trials of on their website. I just cleaned my computer and it runs so well and fast, just like it did when I bought it.

Avast anti-virus = good antivirus program.
Malwarebytes anti-malware = good antimalware program ( if its free malwarebytes then it has no real time protection)
Super antispyware = good antispyware program ( if its free superantispyware then it has no real time protection)
Spybot S&D = antispyware program with real time protection.
Windows Defender = poor antispyware program with real time protection.
You need to state if malwarebytes & superantispyware that you are running are free or not before I can answer questions.
Edit:
then you have three lots of real time protection, Avast, Spybot S&D (teatimer) & windows defender, this is OK not to much real time protection.
Is this a safe combo? - yes.
Should i turn Defender off (because of conflicts)? No, there is no conflict.
An idea for you, take a look at free sandboxie
Tip:
make sure you remove mcafee it may require removal tool.

hey!
ok listend... there are lots of things u will hear about...
i work as an IT TECH, i get asked this everyday! here is not only my opinion, but also my company's.
MALWAREBYTES.org is the best for malware/spyware, and also viruses
AVG- is great for viruses
AVIRA- is great for viruses
those are all free, and they do a wonderful job
also if u ever have a virus/malware problem--the best place to go, for step by step instructions is here:
Source(s): Do not download more then necesary. One of the biggest myts and mistakes made by people in general, is thinking that the more anti virus programs you have installed on your computer the better it is. THAT IS A MISTAKE AND A MYTH. The reason for that is bceause anti virus programs counteract and overwrite eachother, thus errors in removing viruses. One ativirus an one anti malaware, is more then enough.
