  • ? about not voting and fines incurred over 8 years?

I've been living overseas for 8 years and haven't voted in that time. Back in 2003/4 I was enrolled in an electorate in Queensland. Now I want to sort it out and get back on the roll and have a few questions.

    1. Would I still be on the roll or would my name have dropped off for not having voted for so long?

    2. Would any fines incurred in the 8 years still be payable now?

    3. How serious is not paying the fines? Would I have anything on my criminal record?

Thanks a lot for your time and answers:)

  • VGA cable between 2 computers?

Hi, I own 2 computers. 1(old) runs win vista (screen not working so can't control it) and the second runs win7(new). I want to connect them with a vga cable to view the old vista computer on the new win7 computer.

My question is..when I connect them, will the new win7 computer prompt me to do something(view the other connected computer) or just do nothing?

Any advice or recommendations much appreciated. Thanks in advance:)

  • 2 OS's on 1 computer?

Here's the scene...Bought a new mp3 player today. Was excited until I got it home and realized it doesnt work with windows 7:(. I like the player so don't want to take it back. It runs on win vista, xp or 2000.

Started looking into options. Have obtained win xp but it seems I can't petition my hd because it's already taken up with other stuff. Was thinking bout buying an external hd and installing xp on it. Would this work and allow me to boot either win 7 or xp when I start up?

Any other options or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance:)

  • Win7 not booting, startup repair working. Help please!!?

Hi, the story is...win7 won't boot, comes up with options 'start normally' or use 'startup repair'.

I used startup repair and it went through once(took 3 hrs) then rebooted but didnt fix the problem. It started again and has been going for about 4 hrs.

The computer is a 6 month old Acer 5738Z and 2 days ago I just had a new hard drive, with Win7 preinstalled, put in it during a repair under warranty.

Everything seemed fine and it was faster than before, then it started to crash. I shut it down properly and today I woke up to it not starting:(

What should I do with it? I've searched and read many things hereand I think there are 2 options-

During boot press f9, f10, f11 or f12 to access system restore (i'll probably try it when startup repair finishes)...or

Hiren's boot cd (which I have but don't really know how to use it).

    Details...

    6 month old computer

    1 day old hd with pre-installed win7

no cd's came with the computer

since using it(the new hd) i've installed firefox, miro(download program), downloaded a couple of albums from trusted sources, installed avast antivirus, uninstalled mcafee security, transferred some trusted music files from an old computer and browsed safe internet sites.

startup repair ran once but didnt fix it

startup repair is running now(4 hours and seems like its working) and i plan to leave it go overnight and take some action in the morning.

Regarding system restore and hiren;s boot cd what should I do? Or any other options.

    Any advice/recommendations/suggestions/answers greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • ? about security combinations?

Hi, on my laptop I'm running the following...

    Avast free edition

    Super Anti-spyware free edition

    Windows Defender

    and Windows firewall is on.

I think this is a pretty safe combo (also thinking about adding Malwarebytes for back-up).

My question is, is there a problem between Avast and the Windows firewall?

Should I turn Windows firewall off or change something in Defender?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated:)

  • Necessary Windows7 startup programs and services?

I'm just your average computer user, know a little but not much. Running win7 and noticed a lot of startup programs(25) and more services(about110). I'm sure all of these are not necessary.

I have already disabled about 8 startup programs, the ones i know aren't necessary and only a few of the services because I don't know what they do.

Can anyone enlighten me on which are necessary and which aren't? If I disable most of them will my computer fail to work?

Thanks for your answers. Much appreciated:)

  • Anti-virus, spyware program combinations?

Hi, I'm wondering about what the best options are?

My situation, bought a new laptop with Mcafee trial, but it has expired. Read a lot of stuff on this site and now have the following combination...

    Avast anti-virus

    Malwarebytes anti-malware

    Super antispyware

    Spybot S&D (as back up)

    and Windows Defender

also running Firefox as main browser with NoScript and SiteAdvisor installed.

    Just 2 questions...

    Is this a safe combo?

    and (more important)

Should i turn Defender off (because of conflicts)?

Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated.

  • Question about past modal verbs?

About past modal verbs - can't/must/musn't/could/couldn't/may/should/shouldn't have + (verb). About these verbs can we say they do not have real tenses but refer to the past in a way like the present perfect? That they have a past meaning but a result in the present? Please explain it to me simply. Thanks for your answers.

  • Help with wireless network strength?

I live in a building with a shared wireless internet connection. In my bedroom the signal is just ok but not great for downloading. Is there something i can do to boost the ability of my laptop to pick up the signal? Does putting it near metal or speakers boost it's ability to receive the signal? Thanks for your answer.
