Can the Red Bull Team become competitive again this year?

Since Brian Vickers has been out of the Red Bull 83 it's like the car has not even been at the race. Is it because Casey Mears doesn't have the talent to be competitive, or is the team struggling to find a setup that suits his driving style, or did Brian Vickers just carry that team on his back up to now on his own talent.

Update:

Robbie I agree they were never a dominate race team. There are only a few out there and they are currently owned by Hendricks, Gibbs, RCR and Penske. Even Roush although solid in the chase standings has not been a dominate this year, but there are a few teams that can be competetive and contend for wins and have a legitimate shot to make the chase and Vickers I would have put in that category.

If they're going to be competitive, they need to get Mears out of the 83. I just don't think he has anything left in him at this point, and he's probably finding difficulty adapting to a new crew. Speed. on the other hand, does show some skill from time to time. Last year during the handful of Nationwide races that he drove for Waltrip, he was running in the top 5 the majority of all the races(despite finishing in the top 10). The COT is a farcry from the equipment he's used to, but I'm confident that when he finds his bearings, he can be a serious contender. Unfortunately, we may have to wait until next year to see anything decent from Red Bull.

Both teams at RBR are struggling right now.

Scott Speed started off really well, and he was actually in the top 12 for think the first 5 races of the season. And then it all went downhill from there.

As for the 83 team, unfortunately, I dont think that Casey Mears is a good fit to replace VIckers while Vickers gets healthy. Yes, Brian and Casey are best friends, and Brian personally asked Red Bull to put Casey in the car. However, from a business standpoint, the guy is a mediocre driver. He has been given chance after chance, and he just isnt good enough to drive in the cup series. I do not think that they have a chance to be very competitive for the rest of the year.

No, because look who they have as drivers. Scott Speed been in Cup more than a year nothin to show for it. And you got Casey Mears been in the Cup Series 7 years, 3 differ owners, 1 win. Only reason he is drivin is because Vickers is out for season. Cmon you can do better with Ken Shrader

I think the unexpected change is probably throwing a monkey wrench into their game plan. Brian and Casey are two totally different personalities. And very likely their driving styles are different. If you have a bunch of cars built for driver A and then driver B has to drive those cars, there may be some differences that are going to be difficult to overcome unless you tweak the cars built for driver A so they fit the style of driver B. It's a tough challenge for the Red Bull team. Will be interesting to watch and see if they can overcome that challenge.

Not with Mears driving. He had a horrid 600. The dude does NOT belong in Cup.
