Who owns home run balls?

I know that in most cases, a fan who catches a home run ball is allowed to keep it. But legally, who really owns the ball? Does it matter whether or not that baseball is considered to be an important ball?

The person who catches and keeps the ball.

Before leaving the field, MLB owns the ball. As soon as the ball is hit or leaves the park, it legally becomes "abandoned property" (as MLB intends to relinquish ownership of the ball, and under the circumstances, this intent is clear), and has no legal owner. So the first person to take physical possession of the ball and claim it as theirs is the new legal owner.

Whoever catches the ball. And if I caught Neil Walker's HR ball like that Cubs fan I would not give it back unless I got the game worn jersey signed, and a replacement baseball signed, and his game bat signed. Then he could have the ball. Otherwise, he could go pound sand for all I care.

usually D. i might merely be somewhat upset yet not indignant or upset at long by way of fact the Sox merely performed their suitable and tried their toughest. i don't think of it incredibly is a great deal if we don't win.. we've gained 2 interior the previous 5 years, and that i think of even merely getting to the international series is a huge accomplishment. If we went there and lost, specific i may well be unhappy and upset and upset, yet there is often next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i think of for a team like the Yankees, who top now have the main tension to win, so lots greater of their followers may well be upset. BQ1: i might attempt to not make a great deal yet i may well be talk related to the interest final evening and talk baseball with them, and ask for a %and an autograph =) BQ2: a lot of 'em.. Pedey, Youk, Lester, Papelbon, Mikey Lowell, Ells, Bay, V-Mart..
