I have a place called Banburee Resort & Spa. it's located down south of Koh Samui. This is a quiet place good for couple or honeymooner or family. You can find this place like Samui in the good old days with a few bars ofcause :P It's very relaxing and peaceful. But honestly, beach is not that good.
Anyway, resort provide transfer to Chaweng and Lamai so you can experience nice beach and shopping overthere. For me I don't like Chaweng and lamai as it is like Pattaya.
The choice is yours. Have a good journey.

It might be TOO quiet for you, but I like Koh Chang, and I like White Sand Beach Resort, but it would be best to have a car there as the bars are spread out, but the beach is right in front of your "cabin" and it is secluded.

u can still go to pattaya , there are great resorts in jomtian beach (relaxing , away from the crowd )and also there are tons of things to do in pattaya , i was at royal cliff resort and it's such a great place, but if you really don't wanna go there i recommend phuket or just the other islands ,all of them are really nice and amazing places.
good luck and have fun

Samui beaches, Chaweng Noi, but for me Ao Nang, Krabi for best beaches and stunning scenery a good night life and easy access to Phi Phi and Maya Island.
Check out www.krabi.com and www.sawasdee.com.
For hotels agoda.com , momondo.com or hotelscombined.com.
Cheap flights to Krabi with airasia.com or get a cheap flight with airasia.com ( get morning flight then get ferry to samui ) to Surat Thani.
Koh Samet is realy good but to crowded at weekends.

I think you are probably best served on Krabi - and maybe it would be nice to split the time with Samui--
if you want, you can also split the time with someplace entirely un-populated as well - maybe do Krabi and drop down to Trang from there??

Not only do I find the sound of rain relaxing BUT I like the smell of rain. I also think the sound of rain in the night helps set the mood; nothing like making love with your gf all nigh when you hear it raining outside. It's romantic.

bophut or aka big buddha is ok...maybe a little quiet......try the north end or south end of chaweng beach.......or otherwise stay in bophut and get a ride to chaweng in the evenings,it's not far
